Cougars lose to St. Scholastic in UMAC opener
The St. Scholastica Saints football team captured its first-ever Upper Midwest Athletic Conference (UMAC) victory Saturday with a 22-16 win over the University of Minnesota, Morris at Malosky Stadium.
The Cougars scored on their first possession and kept the Saints off the scoreboard through the first quarter. Early in the second quarter, kicker Matt Privratsky put three points on the board for UMM, to extend their lead to 10-0. A few plays later, Nate Lund intercepted a Saints' passe and ran 93 yards for a touchdown to put the Cougars up 16-0.
The Saints scored scored late in the quarter to bring the score to 16-6 at the half.
The Saints defense dominated the second half, holding the Cougars to just 50 yards of total offense.
The Cougars are now 2-2 on the season, 0-1 in the UMAC conference.
They are on the road again next weekend, traveling to New Ulm to face Martin Luther College.
