Cougars open 2009
The University of Minnesota, Morris men's basketball team opened 2009 play Tuesday falling to Valley City State University 79-61.
Trailing by only 32-30 at halftime, the Cougars actually led by 10 midway through the second half, but the Vikings used 64.3 percent field-goal shooting in the second half to edge the home team.
The Vikings shot 52.6 percent (30-57) of field goals and hit 10 of 24 three-point baskets.
The Cougars were shooting field goals at 39 percent and were 3-of-13 from three-point range.
Kyle Bruns led with 12 points. Zach Meyer and John Hammer had eight apiece. Kendall Proell had seven, Clay Fischer had six, Joey Fragodt had five, Daniel Fragodt had three, Jamin Ivers had two, and Jeremy Bosch had one.
D. Fragodt grabbed 11 rebounds. Primus had four blocks. Proell had four assists.
