Cougars open men's soccer with shut-out losses

The University of Minnesota, Morris men's soccer team kicked off the 2012 season hosting St. John's Friday and traveling to Luther College Saturday. The Cougars were shutout in both games as they began the season with a pair of tough matchups.

St. John's 3

UM-Morris 0

The Cougars and goal keeper Jacob Borash kept St. John's off the board in the first half, including a great save up close, but in the end SJU was able to come away with the 3-0 win.

St. John's scored two goals in just over four minutes in the second half to open up the lead.

The third goal was an own goal, giving SJU the 3-0 win.

St. John's got on the board in the 47th minute when David Wee hit a ball from about 22 yards out, beating Borash to his left and into the side netting.

The next goal came in the 51st minute when Ian Scudder crossed a ball into the box and found the head of Michael Coborn who headed it to the back of the net.

The third goal of the match came in the 75th minute as Coborn crossed a ball that went off the boot of UMM defender and into the net making it 3-0.

Borash finished with six saves.

The Cougars were out shot 18-4.

Luther College 3

UM-Morris 0

In a rematch of the NCAA First Round match last season, it was Luther College picking up the 3-0 win over the Cougars Saturday.

Luther scored all three goals in the second half, in a span of 14 minutes of action. Brock Arend started the scoring in the 22nd minute on a header from the foot of Oket Dakwa-Agyekum. In the 26th minute Saul Rosales hit a ball to the far post and in after receiving a through ball from Dakwa-Agyekum. The third and final goal came from Jacjson Stalberger as he put back a rebound off a save in the 36th minute
