Capping off an outstanding 16-4-1 campaign, the University of Minnesota, Morris men's soccer team was awarded seven spots on the All-Upper Midwest Athletic Conference first and honorable-mention teams.
In addition to his first-team honor, senior midfielder Patrick O'Connor was named co-player of the year along with junior midfielder Toby Peter of St. Scholastica. O'Connor's 39 points (with 10 goals) were second best in the UMAC and his 0.79 assists per game were third in the nation among Division III schools.
O'Connor was joined on the first team by three other outstanding seniors, forward Brent Diggs (UMAC 2009 point and goal leader), midfielder Kelsey Duerr (tied for second in UMAC scoring), and defender Dana Veth (12 shutouts in 2009)
O'Connor's twin brother Justin was named honorable mention alongside junior midfielder Mattson Towley and sophomore goal keeper Tyler Weber.
Though head coach Christian DeVries has led the Cougars from 3-11-4 to 16-4-1 in just three seasons that was not enough to impress his colleagues who voted Josh Dunwoody of Crown coach of the year.
