Cougars recognized by UMAC
Continuing a strong performance across all fall sports, three Morris student athletes were named players of the week in the Upper Midwest Athletic Conference.
Kelsey Duerr, a senior midfielder on the men's soccer team, scored four goals on 15 shots, while handing out three assists in two straight UMM shutouts over Northwestern and Crown.
Linda Keller, a first-year runner, finished fifth in a 500-runner field at the Roy Griak Invitational in St. Paul. She was the highest first-year finisher. In UMM's history at this race, the Cougars had never placed a runner in the top 50.
Nathan Lund was named player of the week in UMAC football. In a difficult 22-16 loss to St. Scholastica, the junior safety put in a valiant effort on defense with 10 tackles, a forced fumble and two interceptions, one of which he returned 93 yards for a touchdown and a school record.
