Morris, Minn. - The University of Minnesota, Morris kept up their winning ways Tuesday night at the P.E. center sweeping Macalester 25-13, 25-21, 25-19.
Kaylie Clark had a team high 20 digs, tying a career high while also adding eight kills. Her teammate Emily Auch had 16 kills, one shy of tying her career best as the D held the Scots to just .030 hitting on the night.
Brita Humphrey helped the Cougars pull away in the first set with four straight aces propelling UMM to take a 17-9 lead. MAC would never get closer than eight the rest of the first set as UMM got a kill from Auch to end it.
In the second set UMM and Macalester battled back and forth with neither team seeming to break free from the other. The set had nine ties and four lead changes, but it would be UMM who scored four straigh points to go from trailing 17-16 to leading 20-17. The Scots pulled within one at 20-19, but UMM ended up taking the set 25-21.
The third and final set saw UMM jump out to a quick 5-2 lead before the Scots pulled back even and took a lead at 10-9. That lead did not last long as the Cougars took a 11-10 lead moments later thanks to back-to-back blocks. The set remained close until four straight points gave UMM the 18-15 lead, a lead they never gave up. Jennifer Scmidt ended the match for the Cougars with a kill, giving UMM the 25-19 win.
Minnesota Morris is back in action on Friday as they take on Mayville State (N.D.) at 4:30 p.m. and Mount Marty (S.D) at 8:00 p.m. Mount Marty and Mayville State will play each other in between the UMM matches.
