CURTIS ELLSWORTH KOLDEN

The funeral service for Curtis Ellsworth Kolden, of Barrett, Minn., formerly of Morris will be held Thursday, May 2, 2013 at 11:00 a.m. at the Pedersen Funeral Home in Morris, Minnesota, with Reverend Dell Sanderson officiating. Visitation will be held one hour prior to services at the funeral home. Burial will be held at a later date at Fort Snelling National Cemetery in Minneapolis, Minn. Military rites will be provided by the Morris American Legion, V.F.W. and AmVets.

Curtis Ellsworth Kolden, son of Hans and Olga (Anderson) Kolden, was born on January 4, 1929 in Alberta, Minn., where he grew up and attended school. After graduating from Alberta High School, Curtis joined the Army and served during the Korean War. He was honorably discharged in 1952, after being wounded and receiving a Purple Heart. Curtis later moved to San Jose, Calif. where he worked as a mechanic. He was united in marriage to Patricia Rose on March 6, 1960. The couple continued to live in California until 1977, when they built a home near Alberta, Minn. Patricia died May 14, 1994. Curtis moved to Morris shortly after, and continued to live there until 2011, when he moved to the Barrett Care Center in Barrett, Minn.

Curtis was a member of the V.F.W. and the Morris American Legion. He enjoyed fishing, golfing, singing in a quartet and spending time with family and friends.

Curtis died on Saturday, April 27, 2013 at the Barrett Care Center having reached the age of 84 years old.

He is survived by one sister, Alvina Nelson of Morris; one step-son, Lew (Lorene) Milligan of California; two step-grandchildren, Shawn and Matthew; one sister-in-law, Betty Kolden of Morris and several nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife, Patricia Kolden; his parents; four brothers, Fred, Clarence, Raymond and Arnold and one sister, Harriet Brown.
