Cyrus Days 2010 celebration this weekend

The community of Cyrus will celebrate its annual Cyrus Days June 11 through 13.

New events this year include a golf tournament, fishing tournament, tractor pull and wrestling.

The schedule begins Friday with city-wide garage sales throughout the day. A medallion hunt will begin at 9 a.m. with clues posted on the city Web site, www.cyrusmn.com and on the sign by the fire hall. At 7 p.m., a family fun night, including a family dance will be held at the Cyrus school. At dusk, there will be a fireworks display at the baseball field next to the school, followed by a street dance downtown.

Saturday's schedule starts early, with the fishing tournament from 7 to 11 a.m. on Long Lake. The golf tournament begins at 8 a.m. at the Pomme de Terre golf course. The city-wide garage sales will be held from 8 a.m. to noon. There will also be a craft show from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. and a car show from 9 a.m. to noon on Main Street. In case of bad weather, the craft show will be moved indoors at the Cyrus School.

A parade will be held beginning at 1 p.m. Saturday. Pearl Hanse will serve as grand marshal for this year's parade.

The old Cyrus School will be open for tours from 3 to 5 p.m.

The Cyrus fire department will host water wars at 3 p.m.

The day ends with a community supper, served at the Lariat from 5 to 9 p.m. and a street dance from 9 p.m. to 1 a.m.

The third day of the celebration includes a community church service at 10:30 a.m. on the grounds by the elementary school followed by a potluck. Also on Sunday, there will be wrestling at the Lariat Bar beginning at 1 p.m.

The final event is the tractor pull at 2 p.m. Registration for the event begins at noon.
