Cyrus Days celebration underway

The community of Cyrus is celebrating its annual Cyrus Days now through June 10.

New events this year include a bean bag tournament, a kids' tractor pull and a motorcycle ride.

A medallion hunt will begin at 9 a.m. Friday with clues posted on the city Web site, www.cyrusmn.com and on the sign by the fire hall. At 5:30 p.m., registration opens for the bean bag tournament at the Lariat.

A dance will be held at the Lariat to end the day.

Saturday's schedule starts early, with the fishing tournament from 7 to 11 a.m. on Long Lake.

The golf tournament begins at 8 a.m. at the Pomme de Terre golf course.

The city-wide garage sales will be held from 8 a.m. to noon. There will also be a craft show from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. and a classic car show from 9 a.m. to noon on Main Street. In case of bad weather, the craft show will be moved indoors at the Cyrus School.

Kids activities are planned from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Odds & Ends Convenience Store.

Registration for the motorcycle ride begins at 10 a.m. with the ride scheduled to begin at 11 a.m.

A parade will be held beginning at 1 p.m. Saturday. Leon and Pat Sloneker will serve as grand marshals for this year's parade.

A poker walk will follow the parade as will the kids' tractor pull.

The Cyrus fire department will host water wars at 3 p.m.

The day ends with a community supper, served at the Lariat from 5 to 9 p.m. followed by a street dance from 9 p.m. to 1 a.m.

To cap off Saturday night, there will be a fireworks display at dusk at Pete Bright Field near the Cyrus school.

The third day of the celebration includes a community church service at 10:30 a.m. in the park behind Odds & Ends.

Registration for the tractor pull begins at 11 a.m. with competition at 1 p.m.

The final event for the weekend is wrestling at the Lariat beginning at 4 p.m.
