The fishing tournament is Sunday, July 20, from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Lake Minnewaska. Registration is at 10 a.m. at the Waters' Edge in Starbuck.

The tournament was moved to a Sunday this year because the LTD rally for Day, a National Guard Staff Sergeant, and First Lt. Jason Timmerman, and Sgt. Jesse Lhotka, is Saturday, July 19. The three men were killed in Iraq in 2005.

"It's amazing, with the fishing tournament and the LTD ride," said Day's mother, Vicki. "We're going to be tired on Monday but it's going to be such a great weekend."

The fishing tournament raises money for scholarships which are awarded to law enforcement students entering their final year of training. David Day was a St. Louis Park Police Officer.

Through three years, the scholarship committee has awarded $6,000 to students, and this year will award $2,000 scholarships to two students. All proceeds go to the David F. Day Memorial Scholarship.

There are $300 first prizes in walleye, northern and panfish categories, and $100 prizes for both second and third places in each fish category.

Scholarship applications and information can be obtained by calling (320) 589-2141, Tickets for the tournament will be available soon and can be ordered by calling the same number. Entry fees are $25 for each adult and $10 for children 12 years and younger.

The scholarship committee welcomes all donations of prizes and/or money for the tournament and scholarships.

"It's a really nice feeling - (the scholarship winners) are so anxious and enthusiastic," Vicki Day said. "It takes the sting out of what you're there for."
