Dennis Pillen was born October 6, 1935, in Synnes Township, Stevens County, Minnesota, to Daniel "Dan" and Dorothy (Bonner) Pillen, the second of four children. He was baptized and confirmed at Assumption Church in Morris. Dennis attended District 58 school in rural Alberta, Minnesota, and graduated from the Alberta High School in 1953. At 17, Dennis joined the National Guard in Morris, and attended basic training and spent most of his four years of service at Nike Missile Base in the Chicago, Illinois, area.
He met his wife-to-be when he was home on furlough. Four dates later and many letters, Denny and Sharon Halbe were married at Assumption Church in Morris on June 24, 1961. The couple raised their three sons: Mark, Christopher, and John in New Brighton.
Denny was a machinist and spent most of his employment years at Union Brass. During his years of employment he was always making improvements on the house and yard. His flower beds and grass always looked perfect. He enjoyed boating, fishing, camping, playing cards, bus tours, family gatherings, and pulling pranks on family and friends. At the age of 60 he retired and continued to do maintenance on the town homes where they lived.
He is survived by loving wife of 52 years, Sharon; sons, Mark (Amie), Christopher (Vera), and Jonn Pillen; sister Delores (Theodore) Eul; brothers, Dallas (Carolin) Pillen and Darrell Pillen; many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, mother- and father-in-law, and grandparents.
