Detroit Lakes scored early and often to put the visiting Morris Benson Area Storm girls out of any winning chance in hockey action on Tuesday, Jan. 7.

The Lakers were an unstoppable offensive force as they got off 35 shots on net against Hallie Watzke in her debut between the pipes. Plus side for the Storm, Watzke had 22 saves on the night.

Sophomore forward Hailey Sonstegard was the top scorer for the Lakers. Sonstegard scored a hat trick plus one in the 13-0 sweep over the Storm.

Junior forward Randa Larsen also had a hat trick in the victory, scoring a goal in each period.

Detroit Lakes hit the ice fast, putting five scores on the board in the first. The second period saw much of the same action as six more goals were added by the Lakers to take a 11-0 lead going into the third where two more goals finished out the 13-0 sweeping.

The Storm will continue their road season as they travel to Windom on Saturday, Jan. 11. If you remember, the Storm took a 4-3 OT win over Windom earlier in the season, so the matchup will surely be an exciting one. The Storm hope to repeat another early season win over Lake of the Woods in Morris when they host LOW on Friday, Jan. 17.
