DNR invites public input on the Glacial Lakes State Trail amendment planning process
The Minnesota Department of Natural Resources (DNR) invites the public to comment on a draft master plan amendment for the Glacial Lakes State Trail. This minor amendment is consistent with both the legislative authorization and the current master plan for the trail.
The amendment proposes:
To extend the existing Glacial Lakes State Trail in Willmar to Selvig Park, in the downtown area.
To change use at the current southern terminus near the Civic Center; because the trail extension travels into Willmar's downtown area, horseback riding and snowmobiling will not be allowed on the new segment of the Glacial Lakes State Trail.
The DNR has been in contact with the city of Willmar regarding the trail extension, and it has been addressed in the city's planning efforts.
The Glacial Lakes State Trail is a multi-use trail in central Minnesota between Willmar and the Kandiyohi/Stearns County line. The trail connects the communities of Willmar, Spicer, New London and Hawick. Additional segments extend to Sibley State Park and link the cities of Richmond and Roscoe.
The draft amendment is now available on the DNR website at www.mndnr.gov. Public comments will be accepted through July 16.
