Don married Carolyn Johnson in 1966. Don and Carolyn were blessed with four children: Eric, Anaka, Leyla, and Fernando.

The family moved to Papua New Guinea, and spent many happy years there, where Don worked as a controller for Lutheran Shipping. During a short sabbatical from their work in New Guinea, Don and the family moved back to Oregon where they lived in a beautiful mountain home on Mt. Hood. They then returned to New Guinea, where in 1995, Carolyn passed away.

Don later married the second love of his life, Robin Leahy. Don and Robin retired and moved to Robin's home in Sydney, Australia. They enjoyed caravanning and exploring many beautiful areas in Australia, as well as traveling to the States to visit family and friends.

Don loved to write, read, travel, and to spend time with his children, grandchildren and friends. He was a very generous and giving man, sharing his love and sense of humor with all.

Don was preceded in death by his parents, and his first wife, Carolyn.

He is survived by his wife, Robin, Robin's son, Nicholas and daughter, Amanda Leahy; by Don and Carolyn's four children, Eric Hodgson, Anaka Hodgson, Leyla (Hodgson) Bartruff, and Fernando Hodgson; six grandchildren, Ryan, Calvin, Alexandria, Natalie, Austin and Madison; one brother, Ken Hodgson (Morris, Minn.); and many nieces and nephews. Funerals took place in Sydney, NSW, Australia and, later in Beaverton, Oregon.
