Welcome another edition of the Donnelly news.

More heavy down pours last week meant more standing water in the area. In between showers farmers are busy spraying and putting up hay.  So far most crops look good despite all the rain.

In St. John’s/ Kongsvinger news: There will be joint services at Kongsvinger on July 6 and 13. Bishop Jon Anderson will be the guest speaker during services at St. John’s on July 20.  The joint and individual council meetings will be held on July 16 at 7 p.m. at St. John’s.  Please note the change of date.

Bethel Lutheran of Morris will have Vacation Bible School of Morris at their church on July 14-18.  First and Faith Lutheran Churches of Morris will have Vacation Bible School July 28-Aug. 1 at Faith Lutheran.

The following events are all scheduled for July 7:

The Red Hatters will meet at the Herman Bar and Grill at 9 a.m.

The bookmobile will be in Donnelly at 3:30 p.m.

The city council will meet at 7 p.m. at the town hall, and

Rendsville 4-H will meet at 7 p.m. in the fire hall.

On July 14,  the Community Club will meet at the town hall and the fireman meet at fire hall both at 7 p.m.

The Orpheum Family of Grand Rapids,  Minn. will be playing and singing during the annual block party at the Threshing Bee grounds on July 26.

Several employees at the West Central Research and Outreach Center in Morris have reached notable years of service: Gary Gulbrandson (30 years) and Keith Graff (25 years).  Also, Mark Smith of Donnelly was one of two employees at the West Central Research and Outreach Center, who received the Research Initiative Award in honor of their outstanding service and collaboration with University of Minnesota research projects. This award is granted by U of M Research and Outreach Centers, with eight locations throughout the state of Minnesota.

Liz Aschman was recently installed as Chaplin of the American Legion Auxiliary.

Jerry and Joan Kopacek spent an enjoyable week at Luther Crest Bible Camp.  They also attended a concert at Mt. Carmel by the touring Swedish Trio “Tio Con Brio Stockholm.”

When I got home from the funeral on Saturday I had a message from a Mr. Augoste, Donna Wolking’s son, stating that he and his aunt Dot were in the area, but we were unable to connect.   He said his aunt might return for St. Marys’ school’s centennial celebration in September.  She was in the last class to graduate from there. The Wolkings owned and operated the gas station in Donnelly where the Donnelly  Co-op is now.

Most business in Donnelly were closed on July 4 and some will be closed on the fifth too.  It’s best to call ahead.  

The Threshing Bee Royalty Committee is accepting nominations for 2014 royalty candidates.

Eligibility age as of Aug 23, 2014 are as follows:  Little Miss Donnelly/Princess ages 8-10; Threshing Bee Queen/Princess ages 14-18.

Nominations will be taken until July 15 and names can be entered in the drop boxes at these Donnelly businesses:  Donnelly Coop, Donnelly Post Office and HD & Co.

Each girl nominated will be contacted for verification. Questions can be directed to the royalty committee members Sandra Dunn, Joan Fults, and Mary Werk.
