Temperatures have been cool during the last week and it has rained a little almost everyday. I've seen a lot of field work but not much planting in the last week. My neighbor said they are waiting for it to warm up.

In parish news from St. John's/Kongsvinger: The May newsletter is now out. Extra copies are available in the narthex in each church. It includes a copy of the summer schedule.

Parish Bible study, "A Shepherd Looks at the Good Shepherd and His Sheep," by Phillip Keller will meet on May 13, 20 and 27 at St. John's at 10:30 a.m. and at Kongsvinger at 7 p.m. This is a change from what was announced in the newsletter.

There will be joint services on May 16 at 11 a.m. at St. John's. The Sunday school kids will be singing, awards will be given out, teachers and adopted grandparents will be recognized.

May 23 is Baccalaureate Sunday. Parish graduates will be recognized during services and during a brunch at Kongsvinger at 9:30 a.m.

The Donnelly Community Club will meet on May 10 at 7 p.m. at the community hall.

The Viking Library bookmobile stops in Donnelly on the first and third Mondays from 3:30 - 4 p.m.

Cole Dylan Evink was born on April 28, 2010 at Stevens Community Medical Center, Morris, to Brent and Angela Evink of Hancock. Grandparents are Rodney and Linda Giese of Donnelly and David and Melinda Evink of Hancock. Great grandparents are Clarence Giese of Morris and Kenneth and Audrey Evink of Hancock.

LaVonne Day passed away on April 29. A granddaughter-in-law, Amy Day, is among the family that survives her

The Morris FFA held their awards banquet recently. Award winners include Kaitlin Van Horn (spirit), Jake Moser (outstanding sophomore and chapter degree) Sami Searle (outstanding junior, state FFA degree), and Wade Backman (star Ag placement and proficiency) awards. Green hand degrees were awarded to MaKenzie Smith, Zach Giese, and Tom Holland

The Morris FFA chapter recently attended the state FFA convention and returned home with many awards. Congratulations to following cde award winners: Tom Holland (gold), a member of the Ag services team that won silver; Kaitlin Van Horn, a member of the Ag issue team took first place; MaKenzie Smith (Silver) and Kaitlin Van Horn (bronze), members of the dairy foods team that took bronze; Wade Backman (silver), a member of the farm management team that took silver; Sami Searle (silver) a member of the horse evaluation team that placed 2nd. The Proficiency award winners are Natalie Johnston (third place-gold) and Jake Moser (silver), who are members of the general livestock team that won third place. Kendra Sperr (silver) is a member of the meat team than won silver. Sami Searle, Jake Moser and Kendra Sperr were members of the novice parli team that won 8th place. Sami also won a bronze medal in prepared public speaking; Wade received a state FFA degree. In chapter exchange of ideas the Morris FFA chapter won 2nd place in chapter development and 3rd in student development.

Congratulations to the MAHS 4x100 and 4x200 relay teams that took first and third place at the Benson/KMS meet. Tyler Roske is a member of those teams and also took 4th in the sprints.

Congratulations to Greg and Naomi Fynboh who were recently chosen to participate in the producer progress series in the Farm and Ranch Guide.

Joan, John and Jerry Kopacek and I attended the Heritage Days program at the MAES concert hall on April 30. Later it was off to Prairie Trailer for their open house.

On April 30, I attended the visitation for Phyllis Smith at the funeral home in Morris.

Jim and Lou Eystad and I attended the Word Alone ministries meeting in Chokio on May 1 and the Lutheran worship service in Hancock on May 2. It was announced that for now this group would be called "West Central Lutherans." The next Word Alone meeting will be on June 5 in Starbuck. The next West Central Lutherans worship service will be on June 13 the Hancock Community Center.

David Fluegel and I attended the eye wear style show at SCMC on May 4.
