Welcome to another edition of the Donnelly news.
The weather continues to be ideal for crops -- warm, mild days with some rain showers. The corn continues to grow by leaps and bounds, the wheat is starting to ripen and the beans are beginning to catch up.
In news from the St. John's/Kongsvinger parish: There will be communion services on July 25 at 8:30 a.m. at St. John's and 10:15 a.m. at Kongsvinger. This is a change from what was announced in the summer schedule.
Bethel Lutheran Church of Herman and our parish will have joint Vacation Bible School Aug. 1-6 at St. John's. Registration forms are available from either church office.
West Central Lutherans will hold a weekly worship service in the Cougar Room at the Prairie Inn in Morris Sundays at 9 a.m.
Staff from St Luke's in Garfield will offer LCMC services at Solem Lutheran Church of rural Kensington beginning on July 18 at 8:45 a.m. For more details, call the church office at 320-834-2285.
There will be a farewell potluck dinner and program for Rev. Todd Mattson at First Lutheran Church of Morris on July 18 beginning at 11:30 a.m.
There will be an ordination service for Seyward Mattson at First Lutheran Church on July 29 beginning at 2 p.m.
Group work camps will be in the area from July 19 -24 doing various jobs. They are in need of ladders and volunteers. For more information, call 1-800-492-4805.

The Morris High School class of '55 will have their reunion poolside at the Prairie Inn of Morris. Anyone wishing to visit with the class may do so after 7:30 p.m. For more details, call 589-0127.
The Stevens County Relay for Life continues today at Pomme de Park, Renee (Parker) Kloos is the honorary chair of the event.
There will be a benefit for family of Kurt Kruize at the Benton County fairgrounds starting with a motorcycle run at 9 a.m., a bake sale at 2 p.m. and a silent auction from 2-5 p.m. For more information call 763-742-9957.
A pancake breakfast and silent auction benefit will be held from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. on July 18 at the Hoffman Community Center. Proceeds will help pay medical expenses for Jeff Hagen of Alexandria. Jeff is the son of Sheila and Lynn Schulz of Morris and grandson of Shirley Henrichs.
The family of Lloyd Brandt is having a card shower for him in honor of his 90th birthday on July 18. Cards may be sent to him at 103 School Street, P.O. Box 340, Belgrade, MN 56312.
The LTD motorcycle ride will be held on July 24 beginning in Montevideo, going through Morris and ending up in Appleton. For more information call 320-333-8615.
The Owls' basketball camp was held recently. The following won awards at the camp: Auddy (1st) and Islande Sperr (2nd) in the 4th grade session and Becca (2nd) and Beth Holland (1st) in the 6th and 8th grade. Becca also won a superstar award. MaKenzie Smith was part of the Iowa team champions.
Congratulations to Rob Kopel for being a member of the one of the top teams at the Tipsinah Mounds 26th Annual Member/Guest Golf Tournament held on June 18 and 19.
Several current and former Donnelly area residents were part of Prairie Pioneer Days events in Morris on July 9-11. The Lyrical Trio of dancers took second place in the Kiwanis Talent Show finals on July 9. Sydney Beyer and Beth Holland are members of the group. Holly Giese and her mother Ditto Hennen also participated in it. On July 10, Bennett Smith was the captain of the winning team in the Family Feud game. The Threshing Bee royalty were among the participants in the parade on July 11. Steve Fults was one of the riders in "the ride for a cure" event on July 10 and was also part of the classic car show on July 11. Anderson Acres decorated the park with several planters of flowers.
Jim and Lou Eystad along with Donnelly Threshing Bee princess Kristina Johnson and Little Miss Princess Carrie Wilts helped out with the benefit for Denny Bouressa at the Legion on July 11.
Verle and Della Dunn helped Milfred and Jan Kaehler celebrate their golden wedding on July 11 at the Mark Janachovsky home.
On July 8, I attended the visitation for Doris Driggins in Morris.
The Donnelly Community Club had its monthly meeting on July 12. We continue to plan for the 2010 Threshing Bee, which is scheduled for Aug. 28 and 29. A new event this year will be the Amazing Race on Saturday. We are featuring Allis Charmers machinery this year. The Threshing Bees poster are now out and are posted in the area.
Pearl A. Anderson and I attended the RTA meeting in Barrett on July 14.
One of the things I enjoy about this job is the stories that people send me. In a recent e-mail Dr. Howard Larson said that when he was boy he used to bike out here to help his grandparents with some of the farm work and still has a scar on his left wrist when he got too close to a barbed wire fence when chasing cattle.
