The weather continues to be almost ideal with sunny warm days and enough rain to freshen things up. The crops that were on display at the Herman fair looked fantastic.
In news from the St. John's/Kongsvinger Parish: Vacation Bible School is Aug. 1-6 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Bethel Lutheran Church of Herman will again join the Donnelly parish for this. Joint services will be held at St. John's on Aug. 1 at 10:30 a.m. to kick off VBS. Staff from Luther Crest will be leading the services followed by a potluck dinner. Communion services will be held on Aug. 8 at both churches. This is a change from what was announced in the summer schedule.
There will be a sweet corn feed at Trinity Lutheran of Alberta on Aug 1 from 5-7 p.m.
West Central Word Alone will meet on Aug. 7 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Benson. Coffee is served at 9:30 a.m. with the meeting at 10 a.m. The program will be a DVD presentation by Dr. Buda, director for Africa national ministries of the ELCA.
There will be a wedding dance for Craig and Lori (Backman) Eveslage on Saturday, Aug. 7 at the Best Northland Prairie Inn in Morris beginning at 8 p.m. Everyone is welcome.

A committal service for Wilma L. Matejka will be held at Summit Cemetery in Morris at 10:30 a.m. followed by a lunch at the Eddie Kopel farm (56845 150th Street) of rural Donnelly.
Funeral services for Donna Eystad Bahr of Morris will be held at 10:30 a.m at First Lutheran Church in Morris. Survivors include three sons Jamey (Kathy), Lee (Donna) and Robert (Bernie) Eystad of Donnelly and their families. Her family had owned and operated Eystad Trucking in Donnelly for many years.
Funeral services for Melvin Wohlers of Morris will be held at 10:30 a.m. at Assumption Catholic Church of Morris. Among his survivors is a granddaughter Kayla (Aaron) Erdahl of Donnelly.
Geneva Vesterby of Chokio passed away on July 23. Marge (Trost) Sperr and her family are among the family members who survive her.
Mandon Michael was born to Mike and Jen Cihak on July 9. Grandparents are Glen and Judy Henrichs of Morris.
The Donnelly Community Club will meet on Aug. 9 at 7 p.m. at the town hall.
The primary election will be held on Aug 10. Most Donnelly area residents will vote at the town hall in Donnelly.
Congratulations to the 18U softball team that won the championship in Alexandria recently. Megan Mecklenberg is a member of that team.
Congratulations to the following who won championships at the Grant County Fair: Kenton and Breaden Long (4-H); Janet Hoernemenn (open class); and Andy Brevig who won the sweepstakes award in the open class horticulture building for his produce. Courtney Lehman took 2nd place in her age group in the kid's tractor pull.
Congratulations to the VFW baseball that finished runner-up in the district contest. Tom Holland and Brady Bahr were members of that team.
Congratulations to the Angels Little League baseball team that won the league tournament. Levin Strand and Kellen Erdahl were members of that team. Kellen's dad Brian was an assistant coach. The Royals were runner up. Dakota Lupke was a member of that team. The Tigers finished third. Jerrod and Brock Anderson and Brady Jergenson were members of that team. Brady's dad Rob was the coach.
Congratulations to Bob Leegard who was recently elected as chairman of the RTA board.
The Donnelly Threshing Bee is Aug. 28 and 29. Advance sale buttons are now on sale at various businesses in Donnelly. Posters are available at HD & Co in Donnelly. Activities start with a pancake breakfast on Aug. 28 and conclude with a dance at the hall featuring "Pure Country". Sunday's events start out with an open air church service and conclude with the popular horse and pony pull. There will be plenty of activities going on both days including some new ones such as an amazing race and kids games. This year's feature is Allis Chalmers. All are welcome to bring displays, do demonstrations, play, sing, have a unit in the parade, etc.
I attended the funeral for Ruth Sands on July 22. I also attended the group work camp closing program at Edson Auditorium on the UMM campus on July 23 and some of the Crazy Day activities in Morris on July 28.
Joyce Steuck and I took in some of the events at the Grant County Fair in Herman over the weekend. On Saturday at the fair I had the opportunity to visit with Mr. and Mrs. Melvin Gregerson of Minneapolis who were up visiting family and friends in the area. They do plan to return for the Threshing Bee.
Jeff and Brenda Volker and family attended the Volker/Deveirs family reunion in Herman on July 24.
The Threshing Bee royalty were among the participants in the Waterama parade in Glenwood on July 25.
