After several rainy cool weeks the weather has done a turnaround this week with sunny warm temperatures -- just what the area farmers were looking for so they can get busy with bean harvest. My neighbor said the moisture was down to about 13 percent.
In St. John's/ Kongsvinger Parish news: The St. John's fall festival will be held on Oct. 9 from 10:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. They are looking for craft and white elephant items but no clothes. Items can be brought to the church anytime. For more details, call 246-3470 or 246-3211.
Jada Leigh Wittern was baptized at Kongsvinger on Sept. 26. Her parents are Jeremyah and Nicole Wittern; grandmother is Becky Bergstrom; great grandparents are Burton and Irene Strand.

The Glacial Ridge Conference women's fall gathering will be held at Our Savior's Lutheran Church in Chokio on Oct 4. Registration begins at 4:30 p.m. followed by a supper. Rev. Kristi Braaten-Lee will be the guest speaker with music by Cross-Eyed.
The Red Hatters will meet at Sax's Cafe in Donnelly on Oct 4 at 9 a.m. Please wear your favorite Halloween mask and bring your favorite candy bar to exchange.
The Stevens County Republican party will hold their Fall Rally on Oct. 5 at the Prairie Inn of Morris. Registration is at 5 p.m. All local and state Republican candidates have been invited. The Stevens County Genealogical Society will meet on Oct. 7 at 1:30 p.m. in the meeting room of the Morris Public Library.
There will be a benefit for Lyle Kruize of Hancock on Oct. 9 from 3-7 p.m. at the Morris American Legion.

Correction: Bev Henrichs of St. Louis Park passed away Sept. 15. She was preceded in death by her husband Marvin (not Melvin).
Ludwig Pochardt of Morris passed away on Sept. 24. Among the family members who survive him, is a niece Pat (Gary) Smith and her family.
Joe Wagner of Hoffman passed away on Sept. 26. I attended his visitation on Sept. 28. Joan and Jerry Kopacek attended his funeral.
Viola Thompson of Alexandria, formerly of Donnelly, passed away on Sept. 27. Her funeral was held on Oct. 1.
Congratulations to Kristi Kopel (Mike and Joan) who was chosen as a junior class representative and Beth Holland (Joe and Linda) as a freshman class representative for the Morris Area High School homecoming court. Carrie Roske was a queen candidate.

I recently had a chance to visit with former Donnelly area resident Gary Huebner for a few minutes at an event in Morris. On Sept. 23, I stopped by to visit Denny Anderson who recently returned home after knee surgery. He wanted me to say thanks for all the cards, prayers and get well wishes he has received in the past few weeks. He is doing very well going to therapy several times a week.
Jim and Lou Eystad and I attended the root beer keg event at the Christus House in Morris on Sept. 25. That evening, the Eystads traveled to Alberta for the benefit for Miranda Hauglund.
Wally McCollar and I took in some of the events during the Founders Weekend celebration at the University of Minnesota, Morris on Sept. 25- 26.
Lou Eystad and I attended the play "Godly Women Out of History" at Kongsvinger on Sept. 26.
Pearl A. Anderson and I attended the community meal at the Morris Senior Center on Sept. 27. Later Andy Brevig and I attended the Stevens County Republican executive committee meeting at Detoy's. We also attended the "Emmer for Governor" rally at East Side Park in Morris on Sept. 29. The event also featured Rep. Torrey Westrom and Lee Byberg.
Odell and Joann Christianson of Alexandria were guests of Sam and Dorothy Jorhdheim on Sept. 24. Also joining them were Donna Frank of Starbuck and Shirley Frank of Donnelly, This was a farewell dinner as they are moving to the Cities. On Sept. 29, Jim and Verna Stoneburg of Sunburg and Marlene Bruland of Cyrus were coffee guests of Sam and Dorothy.
