This week's edition is dedicated to the memory of my dad who passed away five years ago on Oct. 31.

After a mostly sunny, warm, and dry month the weather has taken a turn with rain/snow, heavy winds, and much cooler temperatures.

In parish news from St. John's/Kongsvinger: The parish will have joint services at Kongsvinger on Oct. 31 at 11 a.m. with the Sunday school kids singing. Following the service, a light lunch will be served and at about 12:30 p.m. Wayne Grunklee of Thrivent will give a presentation about the proposal to establish an endowment fund in both churches.

Presentation of faith statements by members of the confirmation class will be held on Nov. 3 at 7 p.m. at St. John's. There will be no confirmation classes that day. Confirmation will be held on Nov. 7. Our confirmands this year are Mark Dunn (Lowell and Sandy) Bryce Juergenson (Rob and Peg) and Brandon Pry (Dave and Cora).

There will be a reception for the confirmands following services in the Kongsvinger church basement. An open house and dinner in honor of Mark Dunn's confirmation will be held on Nov. 7 following services at the Kongsvinger parish hall.

St. John's beef supper will be held at the parish hall on Nov. 9 from 4:30 to 7 p.m.

Parish Bible study will be held on Nov. 10, 17, Dec. 1 and 9. Studies will be at St. John's from 10:30-11:30 a.m. and at Kongsvinger from 7-8 p.m.

Lefse making day is Nov. 13 beginning at 9 a.m. at Kongsvinger. If you can help please bring 10 pounds of russet potatoes, peeled but not cooked. Please RSVP to Elaine Harstad at 677-2784 by Nov. 10.

Madison Kahler was baptized at Kongsvinger on Oct. 23. Her parents are Keith and Sara Kahler of Elk River. Grandparents are Milferd and Janice Kahler of Morris, Eugene Stoneburg of Starbuck and Sandy Loycano of Minneapolis. Great grandmother is Shirley Henrichs of Milaca.

Word Alone will meet on Nov. 6 at the Minnewaska Lutheran Home in Starbuck. Coffee is at 9:30 a.m. and the program at 10 a.m. The program will be a DVD presentation by Rev. Smith.

A harvest supper will be served at Faith Lutheran Church in Morris on Nov. 10 from 4:30 -7 pm.

An open house 80th birthday party for Jerry Schmidt will be held at the Morris American Legion from 1-5 p.m. today (Saturday).

An open house in honor of Clarence Giese's 90th birthday party will be held today from 2-4 p.m. at the senior center.

Also today there will be a dedication of the new Habitat for Humanity home at 307 West 7th Street in Morris at 10 a.m.

There will be a Halloween party at the Donnelly Hall on Oct. 31 from 2-4 p.m.

The Red Hatters will meet at "Place To Be" in Donnelly on Nov. 1 at 1 p.m. They will have a pizza party and members are asked to bring a favorite holiday recipe.

Nov. 2 is Election Day. Donnelly voters will choose a mayor and two council members. Candidates who have filed include Walter Biesterfeld for mayor and  Rose Athey, Zach Eystad, Howard Kill, and Mike Higgins for council.

An open house baby shower for Wyatt Hagen, son of Jeff and Kelsey Hagen, grandson of Lynn and Sheila Schulz, will be held on Saturday, Nov. 6 from 2-4 p.m. at Zion Church in Hoffman.

The Stevens County Genealogical Society will meet on Nov. 4 at the Morris Public Library at 1:30 pm. There will be election of officers.

Sandy Dunn asked me to announce that the trim-a- tree contest will be held on Dec. 4 and 5 at the Donnelly Hall.

Skylar Rayne Van Zomeren was born Oct. 12 Bismarck, N.D. to Austin and Roxanne Van Zomeren. Grandparents are Mark and Marie (Staples) Bonebrake, Minot, N.D., Robert and Debbie Van Zomeren, Graham, Wash., and John and Lucille Hammer, Braddock, N.D. Great-grandparents are Howard and Joanne Staples, Chokio, and Frances Van Zomeren, Morris formerly of Donnelly.

Lester Steuck of Chokio passed away on Oct. 22. Among the family members who survive him, is an aunt, Julette Banister of Donnelly.

Jim Lesmeister of Cyrus passed away on Oct. 25. A nephew, Tom (Roxanne) Lesmeister and their family are among his survivors.

On Oct. 21, I attended the fall festival at Skyview Court. Afterwards I visited Veronica Smith.

Andy Brevig and I attended the Byberg rally in Morris on Oct. 22. Earlier in the day, I enjoyed the customer appreciation breakfast at Willie's Super Valu.

Paul Sperr and I helped Torrey Westrom distribute his campaign literature in the area on Oct. 23. Afterwards we enjoyed pizza and a time of fellowship at the Pizza Hut.

That afternoon, I traveled to Hancock for the Grammentz auction. In the evening, I attended the 40th anniversary celebration for Lloyd and Jan Anderson at the Morris Eagles club.

Jim and Lou Eystad and I attended the community meal at the Morris Senior Center on Oct. 25. After the meal I attended the  levy meeting at the Morris school. I also visited my cousin Bev Hurlbut at Legacy Living.
