Happy New year from me and my family!
Several inches on snow on Thursday evening meant that for some of us the first order of business before heading out on Christmas Eve was digging out again. The weekend was fairly decent although there was enough blowing and drifting so that I had to do more scooping on Monday.
In St. John's/ Kongsvinger parish news: There will be joint services but not communion on Jan. 2 at 10 a.m. at St. John's. There will not be Sunday school. The regular worship schedule resumes on Jan. 9.
The Luther League and parish Sunday school families are sponsoring a Norwegian luncheon on Jan. 9 at noon at the Kongsvinger parish hall. Advance tickets only are available from Sandy Dunn at 246-3292. The menu included tea sandwiches, coleslaw, rommegrot, desert and beverage.
St. John's annual meeting will be on Jan. 16, Kongsvinger's meeting is on Jan. 23, both at noon followed by a potluck dinner.
In Good Shepherd Lutheran Church news: regular worship services at 9 a.m. followed by Sunday school at 10 a.m. resumes on Jan. 2.
There will be no WordAlone meeting in January. The next one will be in February.
The General Federation of Women's Clubs of Morris is hosting a baby shower for Life Care Pregnancy Center on Saturday, Jan. 8 from 1-3 p.m. at the Morris Public Library multi-purpose room.
Please check with individual business in Donnelly for their schedules for this weekend as some will close early New Year's Eve and be closed New Year's day. The Post Office will be closing at noon Friday and there will be no mail service on Saturday.
A fund drive has been established to help the Van Horn family after their house burned down. Contributions can be made at the United Farmers and Merchants State Bank in Donnelly, Morris or Chokio or mailed to P.O. Box 341, Chokio, MN 56221.
Congratulations to the Morris Area FFA chapter that recently received a national award. Sami Searle, Natalie Johnston and Kendra Sperr are officers in the chapter along with many other Donnelly area kids.
Congratulations to James Burke on obtaining the rank of Eagle Scout. His parents are Pat and Carol Burke of Donnelly.
Sadie Kaye Lacey was born on Oct. 10 to Jaylene and Steve Lacey of Wendell; grandparents are Bill and Darlene Volker of Herman and great grandfather is Lloyd Volker of Barrett.
On Dec. 24 Carolyn Smith and I attended the candlelight service at First Lutheran Church of Morris. Jeff and Brenda Volker and I attended the living nativity service at Faith Lutheran Church of Morris. In the evening, Jim and Lou Eystad and I attended the services at St. John's. I also stopped into McCollar's Jewelry to wish Wally a Merry Christmas and at my aunt Pearl A. Anderson's home to offer the same greeting to her.
Rita Kiser, Jim and Lou Eystad and I also stopped into Legacy Living to wish my cousin Bev a Merry Christmas on Christmas eve.
Steve Fults and I attended the community dinner at First Lutheran Church on Dec. 25. Afterwards I traveled to the West Wind Village to share Christmas greetings with some of the residents there.
Kristi Larson spent some time during the Christmas holiday visiting her parents, Don and Algene Larson, and other family and friends in the area.
Mark and Pam Mathis and family spent some time over the weekend visiting her parents George and Elaine Harstad and other family and friends in the area.
Mary Brewster spent some time over the weekend visiting her parents,m Glen and Gertie Werk along with other family and friends in the area,
Verle and Della Dunn entertained members of the Dunn family on Christmas Eve and the Stevenson family on Christmas day.
Duane Speer and I were attended the open house retirement/birthday party for Mike Schmidt at Environment Control Systems in Morris on Dec. 28. Mike says that he is going to continue working part time there for a few more years.
Jim and Lou Eystad were Christmas day guests of Nathan and Jodi Peterson and family of Morris at the Prairie Inn in Morris.
On Dec. 25 Bonnie Fabian of Herman visited her mother Pearl A. Anderson to wish her a Merry Christmas.
Charles R. MacRunnel of Starbuck passed away on Dec. 24. A son, Bradley (Deb Frank), is among the family members who survive him.
