Welcome to another edition of the Donnelly news.

A few days of moderate temperatures last week gave us a brief respite from winter before it returned again on Sunday with blowing and drifting. We were back in the deep freeze again all week. Thankfully the forecast calls for some nicer weather.

In parish news from St. John's/Kongsvinger: the parish Sunday school and Luther League are sponsoring a sweetheart luncheon on Feb. 13 at noon at St. John's. For tickets contact Sandy Dunn at 320-246-3292.

Members of the Good Shepherd Lutheran Church will be going tubing at Andes Tower Hills on Feb. 13. They will be leaving Morris about noon. If you need a ride or want more details, call 320-392-5548. Feb. 20 is new member Sunday. If you want to become a full or associate member, call 320-392-5548.

The annual meeting of Luther Crest Bible camp will be held at 3 p.m. on Feb. 13 at the camp.

St Mary's School in Morris will have their annual dinner and auction on Feb. 19 at Old #1 Southside in Morris.

The bookmobile will be in Donnelly on Feb. 21 from 3:30-3:50 p.m.

The Stevens County Historical Society will have their annual meeting on Feb. 13 at the museum. Dinner is at 12:30 p.m. with the meeting and program to follow. For tickets or more information, call 589-1719.

There will be a benefit spaghetti supper and silent auction for Brandon Thorson of Morris at the American Legion in Morris today (Saturday) from 4-7 p.m. He was critically injured in an auto accident in Montana in January. He is a nephew of Joan Fults of Donnelly.

The 2nd annual Nonprofit Resources Expo will be held on Feb. 17 beginning at 4 p.m. at the Armory in Morris. For more info or to register call 320-392-5281 or visit their website at www.resource connections.info.

The Stevens County Republican executive committee will have a meeting at DeToy's in Morris on Feb. 21 at 6 p.m. The party convention will be held on March 4 at the American Legion in Morris.

New Horizons Ag Service will have their annual meeting on Feb 15 beginning with a noon meal at the Herman American Legion. Call 320-246-3239 for details.

Niemackl Lake Park board will have their annual fund raising pancake breakfast on Feb. 20 from 10:30 a.m. - 1p.m. at the Herman American Legion. When I talked to one of the board members after the park day last year, he indicated that future plans for the park include making it more handicapped accessible.

Leona Halbe of Willmar passed away on Feb. 3. Among the family members who survive her are her son Steve (Jeanne Gulbrandson) and their family. Jeanne's parents are Arlene and the late Wilbur Gulbrandson.

Haley Jean Bertram was born on Dec. 20 to Scott and Jamie Bertram of Herman. Grandparents are Dale Wilts, Brenda Wilts, Pete and Rita Kaiser and Mike Bertram. Great grandparents are Don and Marilyn Bates; Les and Darlene Bertram, and Mary Ann Kaiser.

Congratulations to the University of Minnesota, Morris volleyball team that finished as runner-ups in the conference. Nichole Gillespie is a member of that team.

Congratulations to Becky Hennen on being named support staff person of the year at the Morris schools.

Congratulations to Zach Giese (Brad and Kristi) who was one of the winners in the KMRS/Minnewaska Bait and Tackle ice fishing contest.

Congratulations to Pat (Kopel) Dingman who was awarded an 8 gallon pin from the bloodmobile this week.

In last week's paper there was an article about the Cyrus school being used for an observations post to watch for planes during the cold war. As I mentioned in an earlier column, I had an e-mail from a former Donnelly resident who told me that she and several other young ladies did the same thing in the library of the Donnelly school during that time period.

Jerald and June Itzen and I attended the Word Alone potluck meeting in Starbuck on Feb. 5. The next meeting is scheduled for March 5. Afterwards I visited Donna Frank at her home in Starbuck.

Jim and Lou Eystad and I attended services at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in Morris on Feb. 6 and the Bible study afterwards. I also stopped by the Bridal Showcase next door. Sandra D's flowers was one of the exhibitors. Later I visited Marvel Wagner at her apartment in Morris. Marvel was one of the founders of the Stevens County Genealogical Society and says that in her research she discovered that one of the people in her family tree is astronaut Neil Armstrong, the first man on the moon.

Arlene Henrichs, Karen Long, Diane Amundson, Bob Winther and I all visited Bev Hurlbut at Legacy Living this week.
