Welcome to another edition of the Donnelly news.

Due to the large amount of news this week I have had to omit some details about some upcoming events. If you need more info please give me a call.

After enjoying several weeks of respite, winter made a comeback on Sunday with about 11 inches of snow giving snow removal equipment another good workout.

Parish news from St. John's/Kongsvinger: There will be joint services at 11 a.m. on Feb. 27 at Kongsvinger. The Sunday school kids will be singing.

From Good Shepherd Lutheran Church: There will be a cleanup day at the church site today (Saturday) at 9 a.m. For more information, call 589-1461.

Dr. Terry Moretson will be the guest speaker for a series of meetings in Morris on Feb. 27 and 28. This event is sponsored by the Morris Evangelical Free Church, Hosanna Worship Center and Morris Community Church. For details, call 320-589-2808 or e-mail bart@mefc.net.

Frank Runyeon will present a performance of the "Letter of James" at Assumption Catholic Church at 2 p.m. on Feb 27.

Word Alone Ministries will meet on March 5 at the Minnewaska Lutheran Home in Starbuck. Coffee will be served at 9:30 a.m. and the program is at 10 a.m. The speaker will be Julie Smith, from the Institute for Lutheran Theology. She will also be the guest speaker at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in Morris on March 6.

There will be an open house in honor of Gert Brandt's 90th birthday today (Saturday) from 1-3 p.m. at the Glenwood Lutheran Church in Glenwood. She is a former Donnelly area resident.

The Stevens County Genealogical Society will meet on March 3 at 1:30 p.m. at the library in Morris.

The Stevens County Republican convention will be held on March 4 at the Legion in Morris. Registration begins at 6:30 with the meeting at 7 p.m.

Allisa Melberg will present a program "Researching Families in West Central Minnesota" at the Stevens County Museum at 10 a.m. on March 5.

Townships will have their annual meetings/elections on March 8.

On March 7, the bookmobile will be in Donnelly at 3:30 p.m.

The Red Hatters will meet on March 7 at 1 p.m. at Place To Be. You should bring a favorite flower seed packet.

The Donnelly City Council will meet at the town hall at 7 p.m. on March 7.

Rendsville 4-H will meet at 7 p.m. on March 7 at the fire hall.

Congratulations to Brady Gillespie and Chandler Erickson from Chokio-Alberta who were winners at the BPA region contest.

Steve Engebly was honored for 28 years of service with the Hoffman Fire Department.

The West Central Area Little Knights wrestling team won their own tournament. Keaton Long is a member of that team.

Amber Recker and John Huebner were selected to participate in Southwest Minnesota band directors honor band in Marshall on Jan. 22.

The Morris Area/Chokio-Alberta 7th grade girls' basketball team recently completed an undefeated season. Madison Wevley and Becca Holland are members of that team.

Chester Larson was recently re-elected to the Farm Service Agency board in Morris.

Pat (Mark) Smith was recently appointed as a representative to the Stevens County Extension Committee.

This is FFA week and I counted about 20 kids from the Donnelly area among the 80 members of the Morris Area FFA chapter

The Donnelly Community Club and the Stevens County Genealogical Society were two of the exhibitors at the Resource Expo in Morris, held on Feb. 17. Earlier in the day I visited some friends at the West Wind Village.

I received the following info from the Kopacek family: Leif Andersen in Denmark writes that he would like to start a correspondence with the descendants of Chris and Marie (Andersen) Nelsen who lived in Morris. Some of their eight children were: Florence, Mrs. Alvin Olson; Raymond; Wilbur; Clarence; Bernard; and Robert. If you are a relative or know somebody who is you can call Joan at 320-246-3381 or let me know I will pass the information along.

Pearl A. Anderson spent some time recently visiting her daughter and son-in-law Harold and Nancy Sair.

Jim and Lou Eystad have been busy attending birthday parties in the last week. They helped her aunt Marlys Alm celebrate her birthday last week at her house. The event was hosted by her children. On Feb. 19 they were at a birthday party for Jeanne and Brennia Sanasack at the Prairie Inn in Morris. They also helped Lillian Halbakken celebrate her 85th birthday this week.

Jon and Joan Kopacek and I attended the retirement party for Lyle Miller at the Morris Senior Center on Feb. 18. His daughter is Lori Mau of Donnelly. Later I traveled to Herman for the visitation for LuVern Wilts. His granddaughter Carrie was the 2009-2010 Little Miss Donnelly princess. Jim and Lou Eystad attended his funeral on Feb. 19 in Herman.

Jon and Joan Kopacek attended the annual meeting of Luther Crest in Alexandria on Feb. 13.

Jim and Lou Eystad and I attended services at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church on Feb. 20 and the Bible study afterwards. Later Andy Brevig and I attended the Niemackl Lake Park fund raising breakfast in Herman. We also attended the Stevens County Republican central committee meeting on Feb. 21.

After the meeting I attended the visitation for Marcella Hottovy. Her daughter Cindy is a schoolmate of mine.

Michele Papesh and I visited Bev Hurlbut at Legacy Living on Feb. 19.
