Welcome to another edition of the Donnelly news.
For the first time this spring we have had a week of sunshine and warm temperatures to enable farmers to get some fieldwork and planting done. They finally got my fields planted on Wednesday. The crops that are up are looking very nice.
In news from the St. John's/Kongsvinger parish: The summer schedule is now in effect with services at St. John's at 8:30 a.m., and at Kongsvinger at 10:15 a.m. One change is that there will be joint services on June 26. Copies of the summer schedule are posted at both churches or you can obtain one from the parish office.
Vacation Bible School day camp will be held June 12-14 from 6-8 p.m at Kongsvinger and with a day trip to Luther Crest on June 15. Contact the parish office for more details.
Good Shepherd Lutheran Church news: Pastor Mike will be holding a Bible study after coffee hour throughout the summer. You can contact him at 287-3218; e-mail him at firstname.lastname@example.org. June 19 is new member Sunday. Coffee money will be given to the Relay for Life.
The All State Lutheran choir will be touring throughout Minnesota June 18 through 29. The closest concert this year is at in Spicer.
There are Little League games at Aanerud Field on Monday and Tuesday evenings at 6 p.m. through June 21. Rendsville 4-H is serving lunch.
Women's softball games will be played at Aanerud Field on June 16, 22, 23 and 29 and July 6.
The Tri-County horseshoe league also has league matches at the court by the Donnelly Post Office on Tuesday nights.
The Donnelly Community Club will meet on June 13 at the Donnelly Hall.
Dorothy "Dotty" Hilla of Burnsville passed away on May 31. Survivors include her niece, Dorothy (Robert) Eisel of Donnelly. Dotty was preceded in death by her husband Don.
Jazzney Star Frank was born to Randy and Kelly Frank on June 2. Grandparents are Kenny Frank of Donnelly and Jo Radil of Parkers Prairie, Virgil and Theresa Fults of Morris.
Congratulations to the Morris Area boys' track team that placed second in the section track meet on May 26. Tyler Roske is a member of that team.
Congratulations to the Morris Area girls' track team that finished second in the subsection meet; MaKenzie Smith, Kourtney Geise and Rebekah Aanerud are members of that team.
The following Morris Area students received honors at the recent instrumental solo and ensemble contest: Pat Uphoff, James Burke, Alyssa Uphoff, Amber Recker, Ryan Beyer, Mark Dunn, MaKenzie Smith and Tom Holland
The following students won awards as part of the vocal solo and ensemble contest: Emily Varnum, Megan Mecklenburg, MaKenzie Smith and Justin Huebner.
Congratulations to the recently installed officers of the VFW auxiliary: Joan and Jerry Kopacek, Elizabeth Ascheman, Jeanne Ennen and Corrine Flaten.

The Herman-Norcross elementary recently held their 2011 track and field contest. Third grader Kellie Wilts (Doug and Ellen) and sixth grader Levin Strand won several firsts in their events.
During Memorial Day ceremonies in Hancock a bench was dedicated in memorial park in memory of Kurt Kruize who died in Iraq last year.

On June 3, I stopped in to visit with my aunt Pearl A. Anderson en route to Morris. Later Les Cin and I attended the graduation ceremonies at Morris Area High School.
Jim and Lou Eystad and I attended the WordAlone meeting on June 4. There will be no meetings in July or August. The next one will be on Sept. 10.
Andy Brevig and I attended the Stevens County Republican party meeting on June 6. Sen. Bill Ingebrigtsen and Rep. Torrey Westrom also attended and talked about the past session and the budget stalemate.
Joann Kopel and I attended the Little League game in Donnelly on June 7. Afterwards I watched some of the horseshoe league action.
Elaine Harstad attended the memorial service for Ray Holton in Starbuck on June 3. On June 4, she and George traveled to Rochester for the graduation open house of their granddaughter, Maren.
