Welcome to another edition of the Donnelly news.

The past week has been very hot and humid with a few thunderstorms thrown in for good measure. The power was out here for a while on Sunday evening. It has helped the crops especially the beans. Some of the grain fields I saw on my trip were starting to ripen and there was a lot of hay down.

St. John's/Kongsvinger parish news: A planning meeting for the upcoming block party will be held July 25 at 7 p.m. at St John's. Our parish will be coordinating the party which will be on Aug. 6. I will more details about it next week.

Good Shepherd Lutheran Church news: There is a signup sheet at church for a women's Bible study beginning on Aug. 3 at 9 am. On Aug. 6 there will be a trip to Valleyfair. Vacation Bible School will be held Aug. 3, 10, 17, and 24 at 5:30 pm. at the church. VBS will be for ages pre-school through adults. If you are interested in attending please sign up on the bulletin board in the hallway or let Pastor Mike know.

There will be a women's softball game on July 25 in Donnelly. This is a makeup date.

The LTD Motorcycle run will be held today (Saturday) beginning in Montevideo and traveling though Morris about 3 p.m. For more info call Chad Turner at (320) 333-8615.

Brittney Schmiesing and Jesse Boe, have announced their upcoming marriage for Sept. 24, 2011in Morris. Her grandparents are Wally and Marlys Giese. There will be a bridal shower for her at 9 a.m. on Saturday, July 30 at Our Savior's Lutheran Church in Chokio.

Vern Anderson of Priest River, Idaho passed away on July 9 at the age of 92. A memorial service was held on July 16th with burial at evergreen cemetery Priest River, Idaho.

Among the family members who survive him are a sister Opal Harstad and her family.

On July 17 and 18 I took a mini vacation. Saturday morning, I stopping in Alberta for the Sons of the American Legion pancake breakfast. I then traveled to Walnut Grove where I took in some of the family festival activities at the park, boarded a bus for a tour of some of the sights in the area, went through the museum and attended the pageant in the evening. After camping out overnight in Sanborn, I traveled to Springfield to attended services at St. Paul's Lutheran Church. During the coffee hour I had an opportunity to visit with our former pastor Luther Johnson and his family. In the afternoon, I stopped by the "End of Line Railroad" museum in Currie, the gravesite of my uncle and aunt Vernon and Mabel Van Olst in Chandler and in Madison to visit with a distant relative Doris Peterson. I arrived home Sunday shortly before the thunderstorm hit our area. It is as wet down there as it is around here.

Jim and Lou Eystad accompanied Ellen Wilts to in Milford, Iowa on July 17 to enroll Kellie and Carrie in the Ingham Okoboji Lutheran Bible Camp there. Several members of Good Shepherd Lutheran Church donated money for the kids to attend the camp.

Jim and Lou Eystad and I attended the Thrivent picnic at Pomme De Park on July 20.
