Welcome to another edition of the Donnelly news.
The weather during this past week has been sunny and hot during the day with some thunderstorms rumbling through the area at night. There is a lot of standing water and there was some hail here on Saturday afternoon but thankfully we escaped the damage some areas had this week. The crops that have not been drowned out continue to look good.
St. John's/Kongsvinger parish news: The parish is coordinating a block party between St. John's and the Donnelly Hall today (Saturday) to benefit the Stevens County food shelf. The day will start with a bike ride from Place to Be at 1:30 p.m. Serving will start at 5 p.m. and continue until 7:30 p.m. or until the food is gone. Everyone is welcome to come and join the festivities. There will be a free will offering for the meal.

Good Shepherd Lutheran Church news: Vacation Bible School will continue on Wednesday nights through Aug. 24 at the church.
The coffee money during August will go to Feed My Starving Children. The packing event will be in Morris Aug. 30 to Sept. 1. If you or your organization would like to help out contact the Morris Evangelical Free Church at 589-2808 or e-mail:firstname.lastname@example.org.
Trinity Lutheran Church of Alberta will have their annual sweet corn feed on Aug. 7 beginning at 5 p.m.
Advance sale Threshing Bee buttons are now on sale.
"Meet the Candidates" for the Donnelly Threshing Bee Royalty is Aug. 8 at 7:30 p.m. at the Donnelly Hall.
The Threshing Bee is Aug. 27 and 28. New events this year include a 12-horse hitch. The feature this year is John Deere. There will also be a special display of Don Duffner's triple tractor. For more information call Barry Gades at 795-2437 email@example.com
There are two upcoming showers at Kongsvinger Church: On Aug. 14 there will be a bridal shower for Andrea Bergstrom bride to be of Joha Toma from 2-4 p.m. On Aug 20 there will be a post nuptial bridal shower for LeAnn Van Horn and Ben Honzay from 9-11 a.m. Their wedding is today (Saturday) in Morris.
Ruth Moerke passed away July 28. Jim and Lou Eystad and I attended her funeral on Aug. 3. Afterwards I had a chance to visit with Pr. Luther and his family who were here for the funeral. Ruth's daughter Carol asked to me announce that some of the flowers they had on her dad's grave at Vinger Cemetery are missing. If anybody knows anything about them let me know and I will pass the information along to Carol.
In the afternoon Andy Brevig and I attended the New Horizons Ag Services customer appreciation supper at Niemackl Lake park. In the evening, Ellen Wilts and her girls and I attended the Vacation Bible School program at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church.
Congratulations to Greg and Naomi Fynboh of Donnelly who were recently named Stevens County Farm family of the year.
Congratulations to the Donnelly Fire Department for winning the fireman's water fights during Crazy Days in Morris on July 27.
Congratulations to Gertie Werk who was one of the grand champions in the creative arts building at the Grant County fair.
Congratulations to the Morris Electronics team that recently won the elementary girls softball championship. Sydney Sperr is a member of that team.
Congratulations to the Morris VFW team that recently won the district championship. Bryce Jergenson and Chandler Erickson are members of that team.
Mr. and Mrs. Byron Gilbertson and I attended Hort Night at the West Central Research and Outreach Center in Morris on July 28.
Marge Kleinhans and I watched the Irondale marching band's performance at Big Cat stadium in Morris on July 29.
Jim and Lou Eystad and I attended the baptism service for Brady Woodke at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church on July 31. In the afternoon, I traveled to Glenwood where the Threshing Bee royalty were participants in the Waterama parade. Logan and Bailey represented Donnelly at the Miss Morris/Miss Midwest pageant in Morris on July 23.
Opal and Vedar Harstad and I attended the visitation for Rachel Martin on Aug. 1. Joan Kopacek was part of the VFW Auxiliary honor guard for past president Rachel Martin.
