It appears we are going to have a "brown" Christmas this year as temperatures have remained fairly mild during the past week.

In St. John's/ Kongsvinger parish news: Christmas Eve services will be held at St. John's at 9 p.m. Saturday and Christmas day services will be held at Kongsvinger at 10 a.m.  There will also be joint services on Jan. 1 at 10 a.m. at St. John's.

From Good Shepherd Lutheran Church: There will be Christmas Eve services Saturday at 4 p.m. and Christmas day at 9 a.m.

There will be a community Christmas dinner at First Lutheran Church in Morris on Dec. 25 beginning at noon. Everyone is welcome. A free will donation will be accepted.

I have learned that there will be no funeral services for Elder Carol Best, just a private service for the family.

Margaret C."Margie" Wagner, 92, of Kansas City, Kan., formerly of the Donnelly area passed away Monday, Dec. 19.  She was preceded in death by her brothers Don and Les Huebner.

Congratulations to the new officers of the Rendsville 4-H:   Rebekah Aanerud, president; Jacob Speer, vice-president; Savannah Aanerud, secretary; and Shannon Kill, reporter.

Congratulations to Cork Loge who was recognized for 25 years of service at the Morris Area Elementary School.

Congratulations to Chandler Erickson on being named to the West Central Tribune's all area football team.

Chandler and Brady Bahr were also members of the Morris basketball team that won the Case IH tournament held in Benson last weekend.

Congratulations to the Hancock Owl volleyball team that won the pheasant conference title. Tara Flaten is a member of that team and received an honorable mention for the all-conference team.

On Dec. 15 I attended the open houses at the United Farmers and Merchants State Bank and RiverWood Bank in Morris.  On Dec. 16, I attended the open house at Bremer Bank.

On Dec. 15, the Stevens County Genealogical Society had an informal meeting to reminisce about our former member Jean Peterson. After the meeting I traveled to Elbow Lake to see the holiday train and took in some of the open houses afterwards. En route I stopped by the Barrett Care Center to visit my cousin Bev Hurbult. I also took time to attend the visitation for Jean Peterson. Jerry and Joan Kopeck and I attended her funeral.

Every so often when I am downtown I stop into McCollar Jewelry to visit with Wally. On a recent visit,  he told me that Jim Whineries, the former owner of the Corner Café in Donnelly had stopped by for a visit.  Jim's daughter has a restaurant in the Cities and is very busy.

A good crowd of family members and others attended the Sunday school program at St. John's on Dec. 18.

On Dec. 21st I stopped at the Barrett Care Center to wish Bev Hurlbut and Esther Cline a Merry Christmas.   I promised Esther I would say "hi" to all her friends in Donnelly.  That evening, Jim and Lou Eystad and I attended the supper and Sunday school program at Good Shepherd.  It was a good program.

For those of you who forgot to copy my new contact information, it is 11 E 9th St., Morris, MN 56267; phone 585-6435; or e-mail aeanders@fedtel.net.   If you do stop by, please ring the doorbell on the west door, that one will ring back in my office.
