Correction: it was Erwin Anderson from Heartland Motors that moved to Morris.

According to news reports the ground hog saw his shadow last week meaning six more weeks of winter. However, if it continues to be as mild as it has been we do not mind. Fog has been more of a problem than anything else.

In St. John's/ Kongsvinger parish news: Lenten services will again alternate between St. John's and Kongsvinger this year with services at 7 p.m. and coffee fellowship to follow. Ash Wednesday services will be at St. John's on Feb. 22. Services will be at Kongsvinger on Feb. 29.

There will be a parish Bible study, "Christ in the Strangest Places," during Lent. Be watching for more information.

The KCLW will be selling tubes of M&Ms after services. Take the tubes home and fill them up with quarters and bring them back to be used in the fight against malaria.

From Good Shepherd Lutheran Church: the coffee money in February will be given to the Stevens County Food Shelf.

The Red Hatters will meet on Feb. 13 at Place To Be in Donnelly at 1 p.m. They will also have a Dutch treat meeting on Feb. 21 at noon at the Knotty Pine in Elbow Lake.

St Mary's School of Morris will have their dinner and auction on Feb. 18 at the Old No. 1 Southside.

The Stevens County Historical Society will hold their annual meeting on Feb. 12 at the museum. This year's guest is Doug Ohman and his program is "Libraries of Minnesota." To RSVP call 589-1719.

The Donnelly firemen will hold their monthly meeting on Feb. 13 at the fire hall.

The bookmobile will be in Donnelly on Feb. 20.

The annual meeting of the Donnelly Community Club, scheduled for Feb. 13, has been postponed to March 12.

Niemackl Lake Park day will be held on Feb. 19 at the American Legion in Herman from 10:30 a.m.-1 p.m.

There will be an open house bridal shower for Alisha Roske on Feb. 18 from 10 a.m. to noon at the Morris Senior Center.

Delroy Heuer of Morris passed away on Feb. 4. Survivors include his wife Gloria and his daughter Deanna of Donnelly. Joan Fults and I attended the visitation on Feb. 7.

Lloyd Brandt, formerly of Donnelly, passed away Feb. 6. Many of you may remember him as the "anchor" of the Kongsvinger men's quartet for many years.

Thanks to Dick Goldenstein for the following information: Alma (Goldenstein) Quaal passed away Feb. 6 at Wadena, Minn. She was the wife of Rueben Quaal of Donnelly who preceded her in death. Her funeral is Feb. 13 at Johnson Memorial Home in Wadena. She was a bookkeeper at the Donnelly Creamery for over 30 years.

Congratulations to the following Morris Area BPA students who won at the regional meet and will be competing in state competition: James Burke and Justine Huebner (as Individuals) John Huebner, Bo Gullickson, Sydney Beyer, Kourtney Geise, Carly Gullickson and Beth Holland (as members of a team).

On Feb. 4 I represented Good Shepherd's Lutheran Church at a mission's conference in Watertown, S.D. Enroute home I stopped in Madison to visit a distant relative, Doris Peterson. In "it's a small world category" while shopping in Watertown, I ran into Dick and Deb Mahoney from Morris who had a grandson in a wrestling tournament there.

On Feb. 5 Andy Brevig and I attended the Kongsvinger annual meeting and dinner afterwards.

About 120 people attended the Republican precinct caucuses in Morris on Feb. 7. Rick Santorum won the straw poll. The county convention is scheduled for March 2 at 7 p.m. at the Morris American Legion.

The DFL county convention will be held on March 24, also at the Morris American Legion at 9 a.m.

On Feb. 8, I traveled to Donnelly to check my mail boxes and ran into Glen Werk who had stopped at the Post Office for his mail. He said he was feeling better. As many of you know he has been in and out of the hospital lately.
