After a cold snap last week with some of the coldest weather of the winter temperatures have rebounded back into the 30s this week and there are still no major storms on the horizon.

In St. John's/ Kongsvinger parish news: Lenten services will again alternate between the two churches. Services are at Kongsvinger on Feb. 29 and at St. John's on March 7 at 7 p.m. with coffee fellowship to follow.

There will be a parish Bible study, "Christ in the Strangest Places," during Lent. Time, dates, and place will be announced soon.

The Sunday school kids will be making fleece blankets to distribute within our congregation. Contact the parish office for more information.

There will be joint services at Kongsvinger on Feb. 26 at 11 a.m. with the Sunday school kids singing.

From Good Shepherd Lutheran Church: the mission of the month is The ReClaim Hymnal, copies of which will very be available for purchase later this year.

Ash Wednesday services will be held on Feb. 22 at 6:45 p.m. On Feb. 29 and continuing through the end of Lent, there will be a pot luck supper at 5:45 p.m. with services at 6:45 p.m. For more details, contact the pastor at 287-3218.

The Post Office will be closed on Monday due to the President's Day holiday.

The Red Hatters have a dutch treat meeting on Feb. 21 at noon at the Knotty Pine in Elbow Lake.

There will be an open house bridal shower for Alisha Roske today (Saturday) from 10 a.m. to noon at the Morris Senior Center.

St Mary's School of Morris will have their dinner and auction today (Saturday) at the Old No. 1 Southside starting with a social hour at 5:30 p.m.

The annual pancake breakfast fund raiser for Niemackl Lake Park will be held on Feb. 19 at the Herman American Legion from 10:30 a.m. -1 p.m. Free will offering.

The bookmobile will be in Donnelly on Feb. 20.

The Resource Connection Expo will be held from 4-8 p.m. on Feb. 20 at the Morris Area High School gym.

The annual meeting of the Donnelly Community Club will be held March 12.

The Stevens County Genealogical Society will hold its first meeting of the year on March 1 at 1:30 p.m. at the library.

DeWayne Jackson of Starbuck passed away on Feb. 11. Among the family members who survive him are his sister in law Corrine (Devick) and husband Eldred Jackson of Starbuck. Virene Olson and Alice Hallman attended his funeral on Feb. 15.

Congratulations to Paul Erstad Jr. who was recently re-elected as treasurer for the Stevens County Economic Improvement Commission board of directors.

Congratulations to Brady Gillespie who was recently chosen as Snow Week king at Chokio-Alberta High School.

I attended the New Horizons Ag Services annual meeting in Fergus Falls on Feb. 9. They had another good year with over $8 million dollars in profit. Enroute home I stopped at the Barrett Care Center to visit with my cousin, Bev Hurlbut.

The funeral for Lloyd Brandt was held at Kongsvinger on Feb. 10. He was a good friend and former neighbor and I will miss him a lot. After the funeral I stopped in Donnelly to visit with Verle and Della Dunn in their home.

On the morning of Feb. 11 several of us spent time cleaning up at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church. In the afternoon, I traveled to Glenwood for the 100th birthday party for Cora Stoen.

Bernice Erdahl and I attended the Stevens County Historical Society dinner and annual meeting at the museum on Feb. 12. Unfortunately Doug Ohman was sick and unable to attend. Afterwards I stopped in to visit David Fluegel at his home.

On Feb. 15 I traveled to Donnelly to check my boxes then stopped in to visit Sam Johrdheim for a while in his home. Returning to Morris I went to visit Virene Olson at her home. She said Elda Carol passed away. Enroute home I made one of my frequent stops at McCollar Jewelry for a visit with Wally.

On Feb. 9, Jerry and Joan Kopacek along with Helen Kill spent an enjoyable afternoon in Hoffman visiting Marvel Wagner.
