Record high temperatures in the 70s during the past week have made it seem more like summer than early spring. Needless to say most of the snow has quickly disappeared.
From the St. John's/Kongsvinger parish: Lenten services will conclude at 7 p.m. on March 28 at Kongsvinger with coffee fellowship to follow. Holy Week services will be announced later.
Parish Bible study continues at St. John's on Thursday at 10:30 am and will be repeated at Kongsvinger at 7 p.m.
If you are doing some spring cleaning and need to get rid of some things ,remember the St. John's Spring Fling in April. They are looking for new or almost new items, but no clothes. You can bring items to the church anytime between now and April 1.
From Good Shepherd Lutheran Church: A pot luck supper will be held on Wednesday, March 28 at 5:45 p.m. with services at 6:45 p.m. This will mark the conclusion of Lenten services.
The 7th District Republican convention will be held on March 30 and 31 at the Broadway Ballroom in Alexandria. A banquet featuring former Minnesota Governor Tim Pawlenty will be held on March 30.
The Stevens County DFL convention will be held today (Saturday) at 9 a.m. the Morris American Legion.
There will be an open house baby shower for Aaron and Kayla Erdahl today (Saturday) at the First Lutheran Church in Morris from 9:30-11 a.m. All are welcome.
The Donnelly Fire Department fish fry will be held on March 30 at the Donnelly hall beginning at 4:30 p.m.
On Monday, April 2, the Viking Library bookmobile will be in town at 3:30 p.m.; the Red Hatters will meet at 1 pm at Place To Be in Donnelly, the Rendsville 4-H will meet at the fire hall at 7 p.m.; and city council will meet at 7 p.m. at the town hall.
"Heart-to-Heart: As Your Parents Age," will be presented by Thrivent Financial and Knute Nelson Home Care on March 29 at the Old No. 1 Southside from 6:30-8 p.m. RSVP to Allen at 589-1731 or Bonnie at 585-6402.
Renly Marie Quiram was born on Dec. 22, 2011 to David and Heather Quiram of Morris. Grandparents include Todd and Kimberly Moser of Donnelly.
Willow Grace Kelly was born on March 9 to Lindsey Heinrich and Peter Kelly of Morris. Grandparents are Charles Heinrich Jr. and Gail Hockert.
Kevin Backman of Blaine passed away on March 18. Survivors include his brother-in-law Jeff Harstad of Donnelly, and niece Kayla (Josh) Erdahl.
Congratulations to Brady Bahr who was one of the Morris Area/Chokio-Alberta Tigers chosen to play in the "Jam the Gym" event today (Saturday) at BOLD.
Elaine Harstad and I attended Bible study at St. John's on March 15. That evening, a good crowd was on hand for the Habitat for Humanity pork chop fund raiser in Morris.
Jim and Lou Eystad and I attended the St. John's WELCA St. Patrick's Day party at the West Wind Village on March 16. Afterwards I visited with some of the residents there. Jerry Kopacek was able to go home after the party.
Andy Brevig and I attended the District 12 Republican convention in Starbuck on March 24. Scott Dutcher won the endorsement for 12A Representative.
David Larson was one of the Stevens County Pork Producers who was kept busy frying pork chops at their supper at the Old No. 1 Southside.
Tammy Sperr and I were among the good crowd that attended the supper and concert by Dakota Road on March 18 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Cyrus. Tammy announced that the Feed My Starving Children packing event will return to Morris in late August. Earlier that day I attended the concert by Captive Free- Great Plains at First Lutheran Church in Morris.
Jim and Lou Eystad also had a busy day on Sunday, March 18 -- attending the St. Patrick's dinner at Assumption Church in Morris, a 90th birthday party at the Morris Senior Center and the sing-a-long at the Eden Reformed Church in Herman.
Several Donnelly area students were members of the musical groups that participated in "A Night of Music" at the Morris Area Elementary Concert Hall on March 20.
On March 21, Gloria Larson and I attended the diabetes seminar at the Morris Senior Center. That evening, Jim and Lou Eystad and I attended services at Good Shepherd. I had the opportunity to say welcome back to Jack Fuchs who spent some time this winter in Texas.
On March 20, Joan Kopacek, Helen Kill and Phyllis Rickmeyer took the VFW bus to the State Capitol for the annual Veteran Affairs meeting. They also stopped in to talk with Rep. Torrey Westrom.
