After some unseasonably warm weather, things have cooled off some in the past week due to some rain showers and windy weather, but temperatures have continued to remain fairly mild. On the way home the other evening, I saw that somebody had been out in the field doing some planting.
In parish news from St. John's/Kongsvinger: There will be joint services on Palm Sunday at St. John's at 11 a.m. with the Sunday school kids singing. Supper will be served on Maundy Thursday at 6 p.m. On Good Friday there will be a pancake supper at 6 p.m. Easter Sunday services will be at 8:30 a.m. at Kongsvinger and at 11 a.m. at St. John's.
From Good Shepherd Lutheran Church: Palm Sunday services will be at 9 a.m. There will be a pot luck dinner after services on Sunday, April 1 to celebrate the one year anniversary of services at this location.
Federated Church of Morris will hold a "This and That" sale today (Saturday) at the church beginning at 9 a.m.
The 7th District Republican convention will conclude today (Saturday) in Alexandria.
On April 2, the Viking Library bookmobile will be in Donnelly at 3:30 p.m.; the Red Hatters will meet at Place To Be at 1 p.m., the Rendsville 4-H club meets at 7 p.m. at the fire hall and the city council will meet at 7 p.m. in the town hall.
The Stevens County Genealogical Society will meet on April 5 at 1:30 p.m. at the Morris Public Library.
The Donnelly Fire Department will meet at the fire hall on April 9 at 7 p.m. Also that evening, the Community Club will meet at the town hall at 7 p.m. We will begin making plans for the 2012 Threshing Bee on Aug. 25 and 26. Anyone with any ideas or suggestions is encouraged to attend the meeting.
Donald "Rocky" Ranney, of Warroad, Minn., passed away on March 21. Survivors include his son-in-law John (Deann) Miller and his family; He was preceded in death by his daughter, Julie.

Andy Brevig and I attended Bible study at St. John's on March 21.
A good crowd attended the annual pow-wow at the University of Minnesota, Morris on March 24. It is always a colorful event to watch.
Jill Loge and Amy Swanson were some of the Bank of West employees helping out at the community supper on March 26 at the Morris Senior Center. Enroute home I stopped to visit Wally McCollar at his shop.
An overflow crowd was on hand for the choir concert at the Morris Area Elementary concert hall on March 27.
Jody Wilke of St. Cloud spent some time last week visiting his mother Pearl A. Anderson.
