Welcome to another edition of the Donnelly news. As I begin my fourth year of writing this column I want to say "Mange Takk" to those who have taken the time to tell me how much they enjoy this column.
Some cool temperatures and strong winds have made it feel more spring-like in recent weeks. I have not seen much field work but I understand wheat is being planted and some is already up.
In news from the St. John's/Kongsvinger parish: The St. John's Spring Fling will be held today (Saturday) from 10:30 a.m. to 1 p.m.
From Good Shepherd Lutheran Church: April 22 is new member Sunday.
There will be city-wide garage sales in Donnelly again next month. If you are interested in having one, call Kathy at 246-3462 to register or for details.
There will be an open house wedding shower for Brian Wall, son of Jim and Bonnie Wall of Donnelly, and his fiance Michelle DuMont. The festivities will be at Hosanna Worship Center beginning at 1 p.m. today (Saturday).
One of the disadvantages of living in Morris is that I am not always aware of happenings in Donnelly. Kim Quam is the new manager at the bank in Donnelly, replacing Gail Kloos. The bank is open on Tuesdays and Fridays. Also HD & Co. now closes at 6 p.m.
The annual memorial archery shoot will be held at Niemackl Lake Park on April 21 and 22.
Merrill Strand of Toddville, Iowa passed away on March 30. He was preceded in death by his parents, Edisteen (a former Donnelly area resident) and Vivian (Stark) Strand.
Joyce Kill of Morris passed away on April 7. Her survivors include a stepson, Howard (Deb) Kill of Donnelly and their family.
Maurice Dale Simpson of Fergus Falls passed away on April 4. Survivors include his brother Lowell (Barb) Simpson and their family.
Les Vipond of Herman passed away on April 5. Survivors include a nephew Doug Gulbrandson and his family.
Noah Nohl of Hancock passed away on April 7. Survivors include his daughter-in-law Tracy (Loge) Nohl and family.
Jace Robert Asmus was born on March 6 to Jarrod and Heidi Asmus. Grandparents are Rob and Kathy Kopel of Donnelly and Robert and Jan Asmus of Morris.
Andon Thomas Ekren was born on March 27 to Anthony and Amy Ekren on Morris. Grandparents are Gary and Sandy Fehr, Vance and Kim Gullickson, and Mark and Mick Ekren all of Morris, great grandmother is Ardis Gullickson.
A good crowd was on hand for Maundy Thursday supper and services at St. John's. After services the fellowship committee met. It was decided that we would have a block party again this year, tentatively scheduled for July 28.
Andy Brevig and I attended the pancake supper served by the youth on April 27 at Kongsvinger. Later Jim and Lou Eystad and I attended Good Friday services at Good Shepherd Church in the evening. Earlier in the day I stopped to visit Jack Fuchs at his home in Morris. He informs me that Ron Carlson's brother in Texas passed away.
Jim and Lou Eystad attended the Easter breakfast at the Eden Reformed Church in Herman on April 8. Later they and I attended Easter services at Good Shepherd.
On April 9, the Kopacek family and I attended the Agralite district meeting in Alberta. That evening, the Donnelly Community Club began the process of planning for this year's Threshing Bee on Aug. 25 and 26. The feature this year is Oliver. The next meeting will be on May 14. It was announced that the pictures of the former royalty taken from the depot still have not been found. If you know where they are, please call Sandy Dunn at 246-3292.
Sam and Dorothy Johrdheim were dinner guests of Jeff and Gayle Gibson of Avon on April 8.
