Some rain on Sunday was very welcome. I still have not seen much field work. I talked to a former neighbor this week who said they had gotten some of their corn fields worked up but nothing planted yet.

From St. John's/ Kongsvinger parish: Spring LWR/Marie Sandvick Center drive is April 27. All items must be at the Kongsvinger parish hall prior to April 23. Contact the parish office for more details.

There will be joint worship at Kongsvinger on April 29 at 11 a.m. There will be a dinner afterwards as a fundraiser for a Kongsvinger youth who are part of the New Wine group that will be traveling to Chicago in June.

From Good Shepherd Lutheran Church: five young people will be confirmed at the church on April 29 at 9 a.m.

Eden Reformed church of Herman will have their spring salad luncheon on April 22.

The Glacial Ridge Conference WELCA spring gathering will be held at Glenwood Lutheran Church on April 30. Registration is at 4:30 p.m. with a light meal served at 5 p.m.

Faith Lutheran Church of Morris will have their spring rummage sale on April 25 from 4-8 p.m.

The 3rd annual Mitch Kleindl Memorial Archery Shoot will be held at Niemackl Lake Park on April 21 from 8 a.m. - 5 p.m. and 22 from 8 a.m. - 3 p.m. For more info call 320-308-0047.

A Little Night of Music will be presented at the First Lutheran Church in Morris on April 22 at 6 p.m. sponsored by the Morris Area Music Boosters. There will be a freewill offering for the Adair Horgen Music Scholarships.

The Courage Cottage of Morris will have a garage sale and toad tracks book fair on April 27 from 4-7 p.m. and April 28 8-11 a.m. at the First Lutheran Church in Morris.

The Stevens County Homemakers will have a rummage and bake sale on Saturday April 28 from 8-11 a.m. at First Lutheran of Morris.

Keith Stroman of Alberta passed away on April 11. Survivors include his wife Karen who was manager of the United Farmers and Merchants State Bank insurance agency for a number of years.

David Carlson of Florence, Texas passed away on April 2. Survivors include his brother Ron (Sharon) Carlson and their family of Donnelly.

Charles Harstad of Big Fork, Minn., passed away on April 5. He always enjoyed coming down to Donnelly for family events and also the Threshing Bee. Jeanne Ennen, Ray Kill, George and Elaine Harstad attended the funeral on Monday, April 9. He was George's cousin.

Oden Baken of Bloomington passed away on April 14. Survivors include his wife Joan and family. Her parents were the late Albert and Pearl Goldenstein.

Jaynie Joyce Lesmeister was born on March 23 to Casey and Danielle Lesmeister of Donnelly. Grandparents are Tom and Roxanne Lesmeister of Morris and Mark and Hazel Miller of Browns Valley. Great-grandparents are Eugene and Katie Lesmeister of Morris, and Della Dunn of Donnelly.

Congratulations to MaKenzie Smith who was recently recognized as a back to back winner of the West Central Conference South performer of the week. She also received honorable mention on the West Central Conference all-conference team and was one of those named to the Section 6AA all-tournament team. At the winter sports award she was named defensive MVP for the Morris Area/Chokio-Alberta girls' basketball team. Beth Holland was given the hustle award.

At the recent 4-H Share the Fun, the Stampede Club, which includes several Donnelly area members, won the Lawrence Welk award for their musical skit.

Congratulations to Ed and Lou Kopel who celebrated their 65th wedding anniversary on April 10.

The 4-H project bowl was held recently. The Sr. team won fourth place. Rebekah Aanerud is a member of that team. The Jr. Trotter team placed fifth. Members include Savannah Aanerud and Shannon Kill and coach Heather Aanerud. Both teams will be advancing to state competition. The Jr. Pacers team placed 13th, Calista Kill and Micah Aanerud are members of that team, coached by Julie Kill.

During Maundy Thursday services on April 5 at St. John's, Brady Cardwell and Logan Mau received their first communion. Their parents are Doug and Muriel Cardwell and Maynard and Lori Mau. Their grandmother is Edna Mau. Logan's maternal grandparents are Lyle and Marilyn Miller.

Congratulations to Brady Bahr who was named defensive MVP of the Morris Area/Chokio-Alberta boys' basketball team, Chandler Erickson was named honorable mention on the all conference team.

Congratulations to Amber Uphoff and Sydney Sperr for their placing in the Morris Area Science * Math Expo.

Congratulations to Keaton Long who received a fourth place finish at a wrestling tournament in Little Falls. He is a member of the West Central Area Little Knights wrestling team.

Our prayers are with Rob Kopel who was injured in a farm accident on April 11.

Gayle, Jenna, and Owen Gibson of Avon and Laurie Hoffer of St. Cloud spent some time last weekend attending the St. John's spring fling and visiting family and friends in the area.
