To make my life a little easier I have decided to move the deadline for my "news" boxes in Donnelly to Mondays at noon but will leave the deadline on Tuesday for my box at McCollar's Jewelry as well as for other means -- e-mail, phone, etc.

The weather has been sunny and mild for most of the last week. Farmers are busy haying and/or spraying.

From the St. John's/ Kongsvinger parish: Vacation Bible School will be at Kongsvinger this year June 10-13 from 6-8 p.m. To register or for more details, call the church office at 320-246-3211.

The June newsletter is out. Extra copies are available in the narthex of each church.

Lungile Nyathakazi who is an HIV aids educator in South Africa, will be the guest speaker on June 13 at Trinity Lutheran Church of Benson. The evening will begin with a picnic supper (free will offering) at 6 p.m. and continue with her talk, songs and prayers around the campfire.

From Good Shepherd Lutheran Church: The summer book club is The Hammer of God by Bo Giertz. Their first meeting will be June 20. Please call the church office at 320- 585-6868 to obtain a copy of the book.

Starting June 15 and concluding July 31, the Donnelly Threshing Bee Royalty Committee will be taking nominations for girls to run for the 2012 Threshing Bee Royalty. The Committee will have bins at the following businesses: Donnelly Post Office, Donnelly Coop and HD & Co., for the community to nominate royalty candidates. Little Miss candidates age group is 8-10 years old. Queen candidate's age group is 15-19 years old. The committee will contact all those nominated to ask for their acceptance. You may also call in your nominations or for more information at 320-246-3292.

Rose Athey informs me that there will be women's softball games on Thursday evenings in June at Aanerud Field.

There will be a retirement open house for Duke Eystad at St. John's in Donnelly from 2-6 p.m. today (Saturday).

There will be an open house bridal shower for Amy Day daughter of Garry and Bonnie Gulbrandson on June 10 at 1 p.m. at the Kongsvinger parish hall.

There will be a Walk for Life on June 10 from noon to 3 p.m. at East Side Park in Morris.

A Ride for Life will be held today (Saturday) at the Stevens County fairgrounds from 6 p.m. -12 a.m. sponsored by the Stampede 4-H club.

The bookmobile will be in Donnelly at 3:30 p.m. on June 11.

Due to a conflict, the Donnelly Community Club will meet on June 18 at the Donnelly Hall. The regular schedule will resume in July.

Eldora Eich passed away on May 29. Survivors include a nephew Tim (Deb) Root and their family.

The Morris Area/Chokio-Alberta girls track team were co-champs of Section 6.

McKenzie Smith placed second in the 1600 and 3200 meter runs and ninth in the shot put; Rebekah Aanerud placed 12th in the 100 hurdles; Beth Holland was a member of the 4x100 and 4x200 relay teams that finished second and fourth, Kourtney Geise and Savannah Aanerud were members of the 4x800 team that finished third.

Zach Giese was a member of the Morris Area/Chokio-Alberta boys' golf team that finished third in the sub section.

The Tiger baseball team finished in third place in the conference. Team members include Tom Holland, Chandler Erickson, Brody Bahr and Tyler Heinrichs.

Congratulations to Beth Heinrich who won a grill from KMRS /KKOK.

I have more Morris Area High School graduates to recognize this week.

Kristi Kopel, her parents are Mike and Joan and grandparents are Eddie and Lou.

Weston Anderson, his parents are Linda Anderson and Jeff Anderson.

In one of my visits with George Kramer, he informed me that he had a grandson that graduated recently.

Scholarship winners at MAHS were Jacob Moser, Pat Uphoff, Megan Mecklenburg, Sydney Beyer and Kaitlin Van Horn. Lloyd Lesmeister was the winner of the Curtis Van Horn scholarship. The William and Thora Cooley scholarship went to Christina Thooft, Courtney Ehleringer and Patrick Uphoff. Tara Flaten received several scholarships at Hancock High School and Brady Gillespie also received several at the Chokio-Alberta High School.

Roma Fostervold and Milt and Rudy Anderson of Willmar were visitors at my place on June 3.

Jim and Lou Eystad helped out with the NAPS distribution at the Morris Senior Center on June 6. Next month's distribution will be held on July 2.
