A reminder that I have changed the deadlines for my "mailboxes" in Donnelly from Tuesday evening to Monday noon.
Most of the days have been sunny and mild. However, several nights have featured some nasty thunderstorms. Fortunately it has not produced anything other than some heavy rain showers around here. Crops continue to look very good.
From St. John's/ Kongsvinger news: There will be joint services at Kongsvinger on June 24 at 8:30 a.m. Please note this is a change from what was announced earlier.
Service times will switch on July 1 to 8:30 a.m. at St. John's and 10:15 a.m. at Kongsvinger. The fall schedule will resume in September.
There will be a Fourth of July celebration at Kongsvinger beginning with a flag raising at 11 a.m. followed by a pot luck dinner. You are invited to come and reflect on the day.
Bruce Erdahl, infant son of Aaron and Kayla, was baptized at Kongsvinger on June 17.
New Wine will have a homecoming concert on June 25 at 8 p.m. at First Lutheran Church of Morris.
From now until July 31, the Donnelly Threshing Bee royalty committee will be taking nominations for girls to run for the 2012 Threshing Bee royalty. Nominations can be placed in bins that are up in Donnelly or via phone. For more information or call Sandy Dunn at 246-3292. Also, if you are a past royalty or a family member of one and you have some pictures, please let Sandy know.
On June 28 and July 12, the final two games of women's softball will be played in Donnelly at 7 p.m.
The bookmobile will be in town at 3:30 p.m. on June 25.
A memorial service for Esther Pasche will be held on June 30 at 11 a.m. at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Morris. I attended her visitation on June 16 at the funeral home.
There will be an open house baby shower for Charles and Amanda (Greiner) Moser on June 30 from 2-4 pm at St. John's. They are expecting twins.
There will be an open house bridal shower for Corin Zapf, bride to be of Tyler Ascheman, at the Kongsvinger parish hall on June 30 from 1-3 p.m.
The Feed My Starving Children packing event will return to Morris again this year on Aug. 28-30. They are in the process of raising funds for this events. Brandon Jergenson and Miranda Papesh received perfect attendance awards at Morris Area Elemenrary School.
The following Donnelly area students were among those who were named spring athletes of the week: Megan Mecklenburg, Olivia Reimers, Tyler Heinrichs, Tom Holland, Beth Holland and Rebekah Aanerud. Tom was also named to the West Central Tribune all area baseball team.
Congratulations to Rhoda Smith who recently became the new director of the Morris Area Chamber of Commerce.
I also recently learned that Tom Kloos is working for DeToy's and Patrick Janachovsky for Mobiz.
Kellie Wilts was a member of the 400 meter relay team that won second place in a Hershey's track meet in Morris recently.
Jim and Lou Eystad attended the funeral for Clarice J. Yerigan in Morris on June 16. That afternoon, they attended the Eystad family reunion at Pomme de Terre Park in Morris.
A good crowd was on hand June 14 for the Federated Telephone annual meeting in Morris. That evening, there was also a crowd for the Kiwanis talent contest. Syd Beyer was a member of a dance group called "Thunder" which won first place.
The Donnelly Fire Department was among the units in the parade in Wheaton on June 17. I had an opportunity visit with former Donnelly area resident Rollo Mau before the parade.
The Threshing Bee royalty were in the Kensington parade this past weekend.
Steve Fults and I attended the Westrom/Dutcher fundraising picnic at East Side Park in Morris on June 18. Later, I attended the ice cream social at the Donnelly hall.
After the social, the Community Club had their monthly meeting as we continue to make plans for the 2012 Threshing Bee. Advance sale buttons are now on sale in various Donnelly businesses and all United Farmers and Merchants State Bank locations. We are looking for people willing to be in charge of the kiddie parade and the white elephant sale and, of course, help of any kind is always welcome.
