Most of the week has been sunny and mild. If corn being knee high by the fourth of July is a sign of a good crop, this will be a great year as it is already that and more.
From the St. John's/Kongsvinger parish: Service times will switch on July 1 with services at St. John's at 8:30 a.m. and at Kongsvinger at 10:15 a.m. There will be joint services at St. John's on July 8.
There will be a Fourth of July celebration at Kongsvinger beginning with a flag-raising at 11 a.m., followed by a pot luck dinner. Ice cream, bread and beverages will be provided.
From Good Shepherd Lutheran Church: A reminder that services are at 9 a.m. every Sunday with coffee fellowship following and Adult Education at 10:30 a.m.
The following events are taking place today (Saturday):
There will be an open house baby shower for Charles and Amanda (Greiner) Moser from 2-4 p.m. at St. John's. They are expecting twins.
There will also be an open house bridal shower for Corin Zapf, bride to be of Tyler Ascheman, at the Kongsvinger parish hall on from 1-3 p.m..
There will be a 100th birthday party for Folkert Bruns at Place To Be in Donnelly from 2-4 p.m.
The Donnelly city council will meet on Monday, July 2 at 7 p.m. Rendsville 4-H also meets on July 2 at 7 p.m.
NAPS distribution will be on July 2 at the Morris Senior Center.
The Red Hatters will meet on July 2 at 1 p.m. at Place To Be. Their next meeting will be on July 20 at the 4-H food stand in Herman at 11 a.m.
The Post Office and most Donnelly businesses will be closed on July 4.
The Donnelly Community Club will meet on July 8 at 7 p.m. at the Donnelly Hall.
The last women's softball to be played in Donnelly will be on July 12 at 7 p.m. The Tri-County Horseshoe League also has games every week at the courts by the Donnelly Post Office.
United Farmers and Merchants Bank will be celebrating their centennial with a variety of events on July 13 in Donnelly.
Keason Cihak was born to Mike and Jen Cihak on June 9. Jen's sister Amanda and her husband Josh Anderson had a baby on May 13. Grandparents are Glen and Judy Heinrichs

Congratulations to Shadow Olson of Donnelly who was named to the dean's list at MSU-Moorhead, Nicole Daly at Southwest State University, and Taylor Nohl at Minnesota State Community and Technical College of Fergus Falls.
Congratulations to Kristina Johnson who has been selected for membership to the national society of high school scholars.
Congratulations to Tom Holland who was named to the West Central Conference all-conference baseball team and Chandler Erickson who was named honorable mention.
A good crowd was on hand on June 21 for the Kiwanis Talent contest at East Side Park. Justine Huebner was a member of a dance trio that finished in a tie for third along with the dance group "Can't Turn You Loose" that included Hailey Lesmeister. Earlier in the day Maynard Mau was one of the tour guides at the Westmor 40th anniversary open house in Morris.
The Threshing Bee royalty were part of the Old Settler's Reunion parade in Barrett on June 23. Prior to the parade I visited some friends at the Barrett Home. Earlier in the day I attended a memorial service for Betty Bellmore in Morris. She was a housemate of my cousin Bev at Legacy Living.
Jim and Lou Eystad and I attended the baptism service of Kencie Evink at Good Shepherd on June 24. That afternoon, we attended the ice cream social at St. John's in Starbuck. Later in the afternoon, I attended the Vikingland Band Festival parade in Alexandria.
On June 25, The New Wine troupe had their homecoming concert at First Lutheran Church of Morris. Members of the cast included Beth and Tom Holland and Amber Recker. Linda Holland was one of the chaperones on their tour to Chicago.
On June 26, I traveled to Spicer for the All-State Lutheran choir concert. Afterwards I had an opportunity to greet Bev Nelson. Her husband was pastor at Kongsvinger in the late '60s. On my way to the concert I stopped in Hancock for the Relay for Life supper.
Jim and Lou Eystad attended the wedding of Courtney Vogel and Danny Grout on June 23 at Assumption Catholic Church in Morris. They also attended a graduation reception for McKayla Smith that day.
