The weather has been sunny and mild for the most part. However, this is Minnesota and it can change in a hurry as it did Monday with the arrival of much cooler temperatures and some frost. Farmers are busy with soybean and/or corn harvest.
In news from the St. John's/Kongsvinger parish: The fall schedule has begun with services at 8:30 a.m. St. John's, Sunday school at Kongsvinger at 9:45 a.m. and services 11 a.m. at Kongsvinger.
KCLW guest night will be held on Sept. 23 at 5:30 p.m. at Kongsvinger. The program will be "Angels Among Us" by Wayne and Donna Jo Kopietz.
The St. John's WELCA is looking for items for their Fall Fest on Oct. 6. You can bring items to the church soon, but please no clothes. For more information, call 246-3470.
The parish confirmation service event will be held on Oct. 13. They are collecting gently used clothing, household and personal care items for Churches United for the Homeless in Moorhead. Items may be dropped off at the parish office until Oct. 10. Contact the parish office at 246-3211 for a complete list of acceptable items. Due to this event, neither the KCLW nor WELCA will be shipping items to Lutheran World Relief until next spring.
The raffle committee is looking for donations for the annual Kongsvinger Fall Fest on Nov. 18. You can call 589-1195 or 246-3405 with items to donate.
From Good Shepherd Lutheran Church: The Two by Four Family Band, which is Jerry and Molli Orpheum and family, from Grand Rapids, will be in concert at the church today (Saturday) at 7 p.m. with lunch to follow. They will also be playing and singing at services on Sept. 23 and during coffee hour afterwards. There will be no Sdult Bible Study. Everyone is welcome. A free will offering will be taken. Molli Orpheum is the daughter of Jan and the late Dr. Alfred Trumble of Morris.
There will be a theme table and silent auction to benefit the local Salvation Army chapter on Sept. 29 beginning with table viewing at 9:30 am. Tickets will be available at the door. For more info call 589-3945.

On Oct. 1 the Bookmobile will be in Donnelly at 3:30 p.m.; the Red Hatters will meet at Place To Be at 1 p.m.; the city council and Rendsville 4-H will meet at 7 p.m.
Dorothy Jergenson passed away on Sept. 14. Survivors include her son Robert, daughters Eunice and Ardell and their families.
George Kramer passed away on Sept. 16. Survivors include his wife Joyce (Lange) and her family. I will miss my neighbor as we had some nice visits together in the last year.
Sheri Leegaard of Barrett passed away on Sept. 15. Survivors include her husband Bob and their son Josh.
Les Lindor passed away on Sept. 13. His daughter Laurie was a classmate of mine.
Nikki Hull and Jacob Daly, along with their parents, are pleased to announce their engagement. Parents of the couple are Cheryl Hull of Brainerd and Pat and Dee Daly of Morris. His grandparents are Nick and Karen Daly. The couple will be married on Oct. 20.
Jordyn Amelia Hughes was born on Sept. 8 to Jon and Toni Hughes of Morris. Grandparents are Mark and Dawn Hughes of Ortonville, Ann and Doug Streed of Morris, Phil and Kris Kloos of Donnelly. Great grandparents include Beatrice Fermoyle of Morris, and Herb and Carol Kloos of Donnelly.
Jim and Lou Eystad attended the wedding of Kyle Smith and Deb Jackson on Sept. 8 They also attended Niemackl Lake Park Day on Sept. 16 and the gospel sing-along at the Eden Reformed Church in Herman.
I spent some time in Albany over the weekend, attending their threshing show. I ran into a distant relative who was working at the 4-H food stand, Tim Olson, son of Allen and Joyce Olson. He is married to Shannon Altrich. Her parents are Fran and Jerry.
The Threshing Bee Royalty was part of the Applefest parade in Appleton on Sept. 21. I also had a chance to say hello to former Donnelly area residents Bill Ascheman and Jim and Julie Busse.
On Sept. 17, David Fluegel and I were among those who attended the Nonprofit Expo and Community Meal at the Morris Area High School.
