The weather has been fairly warm and mild during the last week. Farmers continue to make rapid progress in getting the crops out. Everything I have heard indicates it has been a bumper crop and dry enough that not much drying is needed.

From the St. Johns's/Kongsvinger parish: St. John's Fall Fest will be held today (Saturday) at the church. The parish confirmation service project will be held on Oct. 13. They are collecting gently used clothing, household and personal care items for Churches United for the Homeless in Moorhead. Items may be dropped off at the parish office until Oct. 10.

The raffle committee is looking for donations for the Kongsvinger Fall Fest on Nov. 18. You can call 589-1195 or 246-3405 with items to donate.

The October parish newsletter is now out. Extra copies are available in the narthex of each church.

From Good Shepherd Lutheran Church: A seven week course on "Discipleship" will begin Oct. 10 at 10:30 a.m. and will be repeated at 7 p.m. that evening. There is no registration and no fees. Call the church at 585-6868 for details.

The parish is participating in Operation Christmas Child, through the international relief program, Samaritan's Purse. Pick up a shoe box at the church, fill it with the items listed in the box and return it to the church.

Zion Lutheran Church of Morris will have a Fall Bazaar on Oct. 13 at the church.

The Morris Life Care Pregnancy Center will have their annual fundraiser Oct. 14 at the Hosanna Worship Center in Morris.

The Stevens County 4-H awards program will be held tonight (Saturday) at 7 p.m. at the West Central Research and Outreach Center in Morris.

The Mark and Michelle Papesh farm of rural Donnelly (11390 County Road 9) is one of the places featured in Minnesota Solar Tour today (Saturday) from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

The Donnelly Community Club will meet on Oct. 8 at the town hall. The Donnelly firemen meet that evening at the fire hall at 7 p.m.

The bookmobile will be in Donnelly at 3:30 p.m. on Oct. 15.

Paul Ersted Jr. announced that the Donnelly branch of the United Farmers and Merchants State Bank will close its doors for good on Dec. 31.

Edna Mau of Donnelly passed away on Oct. 1. Survivors include her children Mike, Maynard, Meriel and Marilynn and their families. Her husband was the late Mark Mau.

Tony Baker of Debs, Minn. passed away Sept. 27. Survivors include his sister, Rhonda (Kendon) Lange.

Landon Strand was elected secretary treasurer of the Herman-Norcross student council recently.

The Morris Area/Chokio-Alberta girls' cross country team has competed Milaca, Ortonville and Montevideo. MaKenzie Smith finished seventh in Milaca and won the Ortonville and Montevideo meets. Savannah Aanerud finished third in Ortonville.

Madison Wevley is a member of the Tiger C volleyball tournament that won the B-B-E tournament recently.

The new Habitat for Humanity home in Morris was dedicated on Sept. 27. Matthew and Alisha (Wevley) Gramith and family are busy moving into their new home.

On Sept. 28, I stopped to visit Vedar Harstad.

On Sept. 29, I traveled to Starbuck to attend their Eple Tiden festival. En route home I stopped to visit Rev. and Mrs. Norm Olsen.

On Sept. 30, I visited Jack Fuchs at his home in Morris.

On Oct. 1, the Stevens County Republican central committee met at DeToy's in Morris. Tentative plans were made to have a fall rally later this month.

Steve Fults and I attended the candidate's forum at the University of Minnesota, Morris on Oct. 2.

Jim and Lou Eystad and I attended the Ed Boettcher benefit on Oct. 3 in Morris.
