The past week has been one of those uniquely Minnesota weather weeks. On Wednesday, it was sunny and mild, but by Thursday, we had strong winds and much colder temperatures. Corn harvest is slowly winding down. The mountains of corn by the fairgrounds in Morris are a testament to the bumper crop farmers have had this year.

From the St. John's/Kongsvinger parish: Oct. 14 is Reclaim Sunday. There will be no Sunday school or communion on Oct. 21. Confirmation will be on Oct. 28, with joint services and Holy Communion at Kongsvinger at 11 a.m.

In news from Good Shepherd Lutheran Church: The course on Discipleship from The Word at Work series continues on Wednesdays at 10:30 a.m. and is repeated at 7 p.m. Call the church at 585-6868 for details.

Zion Lutheran Church of Morris has its Fall Bazaar today (Saturday) at the church.

The Morris Life Care Pregnancy Center will have their annual fundraiser on Oct. 14 at the Hosanna Worship Center in Morris at 5 p.m.

The United Methodist Church in Herman is hosting a family ham dinner on Oct. 14 from 11 a.m.- 1 p.m.

Our Savior's Lutheran Church of Chokio will hold a bake sale and raffle today (Saturday) from 9 a.m. - 1 p.m.

The bookmobile will be in Donnelly on Oct. 15 at 3:30 p.m.

Paul Ersted, Jr. has announced that the Donnelly branch of the United Farmers and Merchants State Bank will close its doors for good on Dec. 31.

There will be an Open house at the West Pomme Lodge, the former Luther Crest West property on Oct. 20 from 1-5 p.m.

The Arc bazaar will be held at the Morris American Legion on Oct. 17 starting at 9 a.m.

The Stevens County DFL Fundraiser will be held Oct. 17 beginning at 6 p.m. at the Morris Eagles Club.

MaKenzie Smith won the girls' 4K race at the Benson/KMS invitational recently.

Callista Kill placed second in the fire poster contest for the fourth grade.

The Stevens County Genealogical Society's final meeting of the year will be held on Nov. 1 at the Morris Public Library. We have decided that in our non-meeting months we will hold workdays in the genealogy room.

Many friends and relatives attended the visitation and the funeral for Edna Mau.

The Threshing Bee royalty was part of the Morris Area High School's homecoming parade on Oct. 5.

A good crowd was on hand for St. John's fall festival on Oct. 6 in Donnelly. Afterwards I traveled to the Mark Papesh farm for their solar tour. Upon returning to Morris, I visited Gary Weers at his apartment. That evening, a good crowd was on hand for the 4-H awards show at West Central Research and Outreach Center. The Rendsville 4-H club won the community pride award and many of their members also won individual awards. The club is celebrating its 80th birthday this year and there are two new members -- Callista Kill (Joe and Julie) and Ryan Miller (Jason and Julie).

On Oct. 8, the Donnelly Community Club had their last meeting of the year as we put the wraps on another very successful year. The 2013 Threshing Bee is scheduled Aug. 24 - 25.

On Oct. 9 I traveled to Starbuck and stopped to wish Denny Anderson a belated 80th birthday. A reminder that you can get updates on him at http://www.caringbridge.org/visit/dennisanderson.

On Oct. 10, I attended the anniversary celebration at the Drop-In Center in Morris.

On Oct. 10, Helen Kill and Jerry and Joan Kopacek visited Lorraine Oleson and Marvel Wagner at Good Samaritan Home in Hoffman. Marvel said to say "Hi!" to everyone.

Gayle and Jenna Gibson and Laurie Haufer spent some time over the weekend attending the St. John's fall festival and visiting family and friends in the area.

A reminder also to check out the bulletin board on the north edge of the park in town for various events such as turkey bingo and Santa's annual visit.
