The weather has been cool and damp with rain and snow off and on throughout the last week.
St. John's/Kongsvinger news: The Kongsvinger fall festival will be held on Nov. 18 beginning at 11 a.m. Service times will switch on that Sunday with services at Kongsvinger at 8:30 a.m. and St. John's at 11 a.m.
Thanksgiving eve services will be held at St. John's on Nov. 21 at 7 p.m. followed by lunch and fellowship.
The parish will once again have a hat/mitten tree for the Salvation Army Toys for Tots program. Contact the parish office at 246-3211 for details.
Good Shepherd Lutheran Church news: There will be a special meeting of the congregation on Nov. 18 following services, about 10 a.m. to vote on an addition to the building. The annual meeting will follow and a pot luck dinner will also be held.
Thanksgiving eve services will be at held on November 21 at 7 p.m. followed by lunch and fellowship.
Allan Saugstad will give a presentation about his mission trip to Honduras during Adult Ed on Nov. 25.
Mission fest will be held at Trinity Lutheran of Cyrus on Nov. 18 from 11 a.m.- 2 p.m.
A Christmas sing-a-long will be held at Eden Reformed Church in Herman on Nov. 25 at 6 p.m.
A Thanksgiving Day dinner will be served at the United Methodist Church in Herman on Nov. 21 from noon to 1 p.m. A free will offering will be collected.
There will be a 80th birthday party for Ruth Bengston today (Saturday) at the Morris Senior Center from 2-4 p.m.
Faith Linda Erdahl was born to Joshua and Kayla Erdahl of Alexandria. Grandparents are Jeff Harstad of Donnelly and the late Linda Harstad, Steve and Sue Erdahl-Nelson of Donnelly and the late Bruce Erdahl.
Blake and Gabrielle Strittmatter were born recently to Steve and Krystal (Engbly) Strittmatter. Grandparents are Steve and the late Cathy Engbly. There will be a baby shower for them today (Saturday) at Grandpa Steve's farm 12615 160th St., Hoffman from 10 a.m.-noon,
Stella Elizabeth Amthauer was born recently to Brad and Robyn (Werk) Amthauer. Grandparents are Bob and Phyllis Werk. There will be a baby shower for her Nov. 24 at the Rollie and Jan Greiner farm, 13842 State Highway 9, Donnelly.
Nicole Wittern passed away on Nov. 12. Survivors include her husband Jeremyah and daughter Jada Leigh; sisters: Jessica, Andrea, and Samantha; mother: Becky Bergstrom; Grandmother: Irene Strand and their families. Her funeral is today (Saturday) at Kongsvinger.
Dorothy Bour of St. Paul passed away on Nov. 5. Survivors include her sister-in-law Pearl A. Anderson. She and her son Jody traveled to St. Paul for the memorial service on Nov. 8.
Marion Beck of Morris passed away on Nov. 10. Survivors include her daughter-in-law, former Donnelly resident, Joyce (Ersted) Beck.
Dwane Stoneburg of Herman passed away recently. Survivors include his uncle Verle (Della) Dunn.
Samantha Larson was recently elected as reporter for the Herman -Norcross FFA chapter.
Members of the Stevens County Genealogical Society Board met at the Hoffman Nursing Home on Nov. 8th. Marvel Wagner was re-elected to the Board.
A good crowd was on hand at Valu Ford's customer appreciation event on Nov. 1. I had an opportunity to visit with my former neighbor Gary Huebner. He said it was his grandson's first birthday.
I recently stopped to visit Denny Anderson at the Minnewaska Lutheran Home and talked with his daughter Jill.
A good crowd was on hand on Nov. 10 for the concert by the Ophoveron family band. Molli says they have tentative plans to be at the Morris Evangelical Free Church on Christmas Eve.
On Nov. 13, I visited my aunt Pearl A. Anderson, Opal Harstad and Gary Weers.
Jim and Lou Eystad attended the Veterans Day program at the Morris Area Schools on Nov. 12. Jim is a veteran.
The bookmobile will be in Donnelly on Nov. 28.
The post office and most Donnelly businesses will be closed on Nov. 22.
