Welcome to another edition of the Donnelly news. I really appreciate all the people who have taken the time during the last year to tell me that they enjoy reading my column.
Although there is still some snow left in sheltered areas, it appears winter is finally gone. I have heard reports of a few farmers out in the fields in the area but have not seen any. I know my fields are still too wet to do anything.
In news from the St. John's/Kongsvinger parish: On April 26, our services will be broadcast on KMRS at 11 a.m., in loving memory of Greg and Delia Ruff by Jim and Lou Eystad.
Thanks to Rev. Linda Pedersen from the Southwest Minnesota synod office for being the guest preacher at the installation service for Rev. Judy Gelinske on April 19.
We have two new Christ Candles in our parish donated by Marlys Alm in memory of her husband Parnell and the family of Ellen Mischke in her memory.
Baccalaureate Sunday will be held on May 17 at both churches. If you have a family member graduating this year, please give the parish office the information so it can be included in the May newsletter.
There will be a Gaither Gospel concert at the Target Center in Minneapolis on May 30 at 6 p.m. Trinity Lutheran Church in Cyrus has about 30 extra tickets (bus ride included) available for the concert. If interested, please call the church office at 795-3569 by April 24.
Faith Lutheran Church in Morris will have a pie and rummage sale on April 29 from 4 to 9 p.m.
The Attic Basement Closet and bake sale at Zion Lutheran in Morris continues today (Saturday) from 8 to 11 a.m.
ELCA members will have opportunity to hear nominees for bishop speak at a forum on Sunday, April 26, at 2:30 p.m., at Kviteseid Lutheran Church in Milan. Election of a bishop will take place on June 12-14 at the synod assembly at St. Peter, Minn.
The West Central Word Alone chapter will meet on May 2 at Zion Lutheran Church in Appleton. Coffee is at 9:30 a.m. and the program begins at 10 a.m. For more info call 795-2477.
There will be citywide garage sales continuing in Donnelly today (Saturday) from 8 a.m. until noon.
The Stevens Community Humane Society will have their annual meeting today (Saturday) at the Common Cup Coffee House in Morris beginning at 6:30 p.m.
On May 3 at 2 p.m., there will be a ceremony at the Old #1 Southside in Morris honoring all area Korean War veterans. Anyone who served in the armed forces from July 1950 to January 1955 is encouraged to attend. For more info please call 589-3275.
There will be a pancake breakfast for Neimackl Lake Park on May 16 at the Herman American Legion from 10:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. The park is located about half way between Herman and Donnelly. The annual Park Day will be held September 13.
Mary Stallman of Beardsley passed away recently. Her grandson Jeff and his wife Marilynn Stallman and their family of Donnelly are among those who survive her.
Melissa Simpson and Carl Lemme are pleased to announce their engagement. Parents of the couple are Lowell and Barbara Simpson of Chokio and Drs. Gary and Terry Lemme of Brookings, S.D. A June 27, 2009 wedding will take place at the Lorie and Mark Standinger home in Arlington. Melissa is a former Threshing Bee queen.
On April 16, the Kopacek family and I took in the 15th anniversary celebration at Morris Auto Plaza in Morris. Thanks to Mike Kopel and the Kopel Kooker crew for preparing and serving the delicious meal.
On April 17, we had a chance to hear former Donnelly area resident Gordon Fredrickson give a presentation at Heritage Days at the MAES concert hall. Afterwards, I spent some time visiting Wally McCollar at his shop.
April 18 was St. John's Spring Fling and a good crowd took in that event.
Gail, Jenna and Owen Gibson of Avon (Sam and Dorothy Jordhiem) and Laurie Hoffer of St. Cloud (Shirley Frank) spent some time last weekend visiting family and friends in the area and helping out at the spring fling.
Joyce Steuck and I were among those who enjoyed the Darren Streblow comedy show on April 19.
