The weather remains hot and dry. We did have a little rain on Tuesday and Thursday, but that did not amount to much. So far the corn and small grain seem to be doing okay but the beans need more moisture, as some are turning yellow.

The family of former Donnelly area resident Lloyd Brandt is having a card shower for him in honor of his 89th birthday on July 18. Cards can be sent to: 103 School St., Belgrade, MN 56312. He is my former neighbor and was the anchor of the Kongsvinger Men's quartet and the choir for as long as I can remember.

A new addition to my family is Buttons, a kitten I got from a family in Morris to replace Kitty, who recently passed away.

Myron Riley of Hancock, formerly of the Donnelly area, passed away on July 5. He was my former neighbor. His funeral was held on July 8 at Assumption Catholic Church in Morris. His survivors include his son Eric and Jen Riley of Dilworth formerly of Donnelly.

Congratulations to Cammi and Savannah Aanerud for winning reserve championship at the 4-H food revue and demonstration day held recently.

Many folks enjoyed the fine parades in Hancock on July 4 and the Heritage Days parade in Starbuck on July 5. Kaylene Mecklenburg pulled the Threshing Bee royalty float in both parades. The royalty were recognized at the Miss Minnewaska pageant in Starbuck. Congratulations to the Hancock band for doing another fine job of marching and performing in their parade.

After the Hancock parade, it was off to the tractor pull for awhile. I am hopeful some of these same tractors will be in Donnelly for our annual tractor pull on Aug. 29.

On July 6th several of us watched the Little League playoff game between the Royals and the Cubs. The Royals won. Riley Biesterfeld is a member of the team.
