Welcome to the Donnelly news.
Many area residents are still cleaning up from the June 21 storm. Thankfully the weather has been sunny and warm since then giving crops time to recover from the storm. Farmers are busy spraying and haying. Corn continues to look very good.
In St. John’s/ Kongsvinger news: There will be joint services at Kongsvinger at 10:15 a.m. on July 7, followed by a time of fellowship for Jerry and Erica Loher and family. He is being deployed to Afghanistan later this summer. His parents are Jerry Loher, Jr. and Jody Loher and his grandmother is Bertha Larson. Please note the change of time from what was announced earlier.
There will be joint services at St John's on July 14 at 10:15 a.m.
Rev. Judy Gellinske, the parish pastor for the past 4 and a-half years, has announced she will be retiring on Aug. 1.
From Good Shepherd Lutheran Church: Adult forums will be held on July 7 and 21.
“Heart’s Desire” conference will be held at Hosanna Worship Center of Morris on July 9 at 7 p.m.
On July 8, the bookmobile will be in town at 3:30 p.m., the Donnelly Community Club will meet at the town hall and the firemen will meet at the fire hall at 7 p.m.
A second Surplus Food distribution for Stevens County will be held July 16 starting at 5:30 p.m. at the Morris Area High School cafeteria.
LaVille Larson of Bozeman, Mont., passed away on June 7. Her husband was my mother’s cousin.
Former Alberta resident David Andert passed away June 21. Survivors include his cousins, the Kopacek family of Donnelly.
Nominations for our 2013 Donnelly Threshing Bee Royalty are being accepted July 1 - 15. There are drop boxes at the Donnelly Coop, Donnelly Post Office, and HD & Co. Eligibility ages for Little Miss Donnelly/Princess are 8 - 10 years old. Eligibility ages for Threshing Bee Queen/Princess are 14 -18 years old.
There will be an Erickson family reunion at Kongsvinger on June 20 beginning with a potluck dinner at noon. All family members are invited.
Lucas Schmiesing, son of Randy and Karla, and grandson of Wally and Marlys Geise, was a recent graduate of North Dakota State University.
Jerry and Joan Kopacek attended an enjoyable Women’s Week at Luther Crest Bible Camp.
On June 25, Craig and Cork Loge and I attended the final Little League game of the year in Donnelly. Later Jack Fuchs and I watched another game at Wells Park in Morris.
The Stabekk School Band from Oslo, Norway was one of the bands featured in the Vikingland Band Festival in Alexandria on June 30. The 726 cadets were grand champions.
Several Donnelly area kids were among the “New Winers” who performed their homecoming concert at First Lutheran Church of Morris on July 2, following a 10-day trip to North and South Carolina.
