Some rain on Tuesday and Wednesday has helped to freshen things up around here. Crops still look good and the beans are starting to turn. Most grain harvesting is done around here but I saw a lot of harvesting underway on the trip to and from Rollag last weekend.
In news from the St. John's/ Kongsvinger Parish: Rally Sunday will be held Sept. 13 at Kongsvinger. Sunday School will be at 9 a.m. and joint services at 10:15 a.m. There will be a dinner afterwards furnished and served by the joint council (not potluck). Sunday School teachers will be installed and third graders will receive their Bibles. The regular schedule resumes Sept. 20 with services at Kongsvinger at 8:30 a.m. followed by coffee fellowship in the church basement. Sunday School will be held at Kongsvinger at 9:45 a.m. Service at St. John's is 11 a.m. with coffee fellowship beforehand.
The September newsletter is now out and extra copies are available in the narthex of each church.
The parish women's book club has been rescheduled for Sept. 23 at 1:30 p.m. at Jeanne Ennnen's home.
The service project for the confirmands this month is collecting items for "Churches United for the Homeless" in Moorhead. A list of items needed is included in the parish newsletter and posted in each church. The Dakota Boys Ranch truck will stop at St. John's on Sept 29. Items that are not wanted are listed in the newsletter, LWR/Marie Sandvick items will be shipped on Oct. 2.
The area youth organization kick off event will be held on Sept. 20 at 5:30 p.m. at a location to be announced later.
Luther Crest Fall Festival is Sept. 15 from 2-4 p.m. There are several other events at the camp this month.
Neimackl Lake Park Day will be held Sept. 13 beginning at 11 a.m. The park is between Herman and Donnelly. The day will include music, a meal, pie baking contest, classic car show and more. For more information, call 677-3356.
There will be a diabetes workshop at the Morris Senior Center on Sept. 17 from 4-7 p.m. For more info contact Sue Dudding at SCMC.

There will be an open house bridal shower for Mandi Kloos (Parker and Renee) at Faith Lutheran Church in Morris today (Saturday) at 11 a.m.
There will be an open house at the Crazy Sisters market of rural Cyrus today (Saturday) and on Sept 18 and 19.
The Pedersen Funeral Home and Starbuck Funeral Home will have a picnic of hope and healing Sept. 21 at the main shelter at Pomme de Terre park. Reservations are requested.
The Donnelly Rod and Gun Club will have its annual trap shoot at Harstad Slough Sept. 13 from 1-4 p.m.
Marlin Seel passed away recently. He was Ken Cline's brother-in-law.
Gladwyn "Bud" Kaehler of Morris passed away on Sept. 2. His brother Milfred (Janice) are among the family members who survive him.
Mary "Betty" Miller of Graceville passed away on Aug. 22. Her daughter Sharon (Ron) Carlson is one of her survivors.
Congratulations to Leann Deal of Wheaton and Jeromey Stoneburg of Herman on their engagement. His parents are John Barber and Wanda Stoneburg; grandmother is Geri Barber of Donnelly. There will be a bridal shower for them at Ava Marie Catholic Church in Wheaton today (Saturday) from 9:30-11:30 a.m. They will be married in October in Wayzata.
Jeff Hagen of Hoffman and Kelsey Twetten of Alexandria announce their upcoming marriage. Jeff is the son of Lynn and Sheila Schulz of Morris, and grandson of Betty Hagen of Hoffman, Shirley Henrichs of Donnelly, and Dolores Schulz of Parkers Prairie. Kelsey is the daughter of Neal Twetten of Cosmos and Pam and Brian McKenna of Nevis and the granddaughter of Lois Twetten of Gaylord and Orville and Wanda Thun of Alexandria.
The Stevens County Genealogical Society had its first meeting of the year on Sept. 3. Plans are underway for an open house at the Morris Public Library on Nov. 5 to celebrate the 25th anniversary of the organization. The next meeting will be on Oct. 1.
On Sept. 4, several of us attended the Metal to Money auction near Hoffman. After the auction I traveled to Rollag for their threshing show. From what I could tell they too had a really good turnout this year.
Jim and Lou Eystad attended the Golden Wedding celebration for Jerry and June Itzen in Morris on Sept. 6.

Joan Kopacek and I attended the Learning Unlimited meeting at the Morris library on Sept. 9. The next meeting is tentatively scheduled for Oct, 7 at MAHS. A
