For the first time this summer it rained all day on Monday, giving us about 1.5 inches of rain. Otherwise, most of last week felt more like summer than fall with temperatures into the 80s. The beans are turning rapidly and I suspect that by the time you read this many farmers will be picking them. Corn still has a ways to go so farmers are hoping for a very late frost.

In St. John's/ Kongsvinger parish news: The regular worship schedule for the parish is now in effect and will continue until late May.

The Dakota Boys Ranch truck will stop at St. John's on Sept. 29. LWR/Marie Sandvick items will be shipped on Oct. 2.

There will be an open house baby shower for the baby to be of Josh Erdahl and Kayla Harstad on Oct. 3 at Faith Lutheran Church in Morris from 10:30 -11:30 a.m.

An open regional meeting sponsored by Word Alone will be held at Mt. Carmel Bible Camp near Alexandria on Sept. 27 from 1:30 to 5 p.m. Two ELCA bishops and Word Alone president Jaynan Clark are scheduled to speak. A bus will be available to the Mt. Carmel meeting. There will be an open gathering for interested ELCA members on Oct. 3 from 9:00 a.m. to noon at Calvary Lutheran Church in Willmar. For more information, call 795-2477.

There will be a "Faith Search Discovery Event" at MAHS Sept. 27 at 6:30 p.m., sponsored by the Stevens County Ministerial Association. Dr. Don Bierle will be the speaker.

An open house wedding dance for Adam and Carla Ritter will be held today (Saturday), beginning at 8 p.m., at the Morris Eagles Club.

On Wednesday, Oct. 7, from 8-10 a.m., at the Morris Elementary School concert hall there will be a community forum on "Coping with the Cost of Health Care." The event is co-sponsored by Learning Unlimited and Service Learning. A panel presentation by students and local stakeholders will be followed by open discussion.

The Stevens County Genealogical Society will meet Oct. 1 at 1:30 p.m. at the Morris Public Library.

Harlan Hadler of Minneapolis passed away Sept. 15. His survivors include a brother, Darrell (Vionne) of Donnelly.

Waldo Erickson of Springfield, Minn., passed away Sept. 19. His survivors include his son Mark (Deb) Erickson of Donnelly.

Congratulations to Rebekah Aanerud who recently won a purple ribbon on her demonstration and a blue on her quilting project at the State Fair. Several other Rendsville 4-Hers also won awards at the fair and the club won a red with its banner.

Congratulations to recent University of Minnesota, Morris graduates Karen (Mark) Van Horn (with high distinction) and Matthew Zaske of Donnelly.

Several of us attended the Pioneer Threshing Show in Albany over the weekend. My camping neighbor was former Donnelly area resident, Dennis Kruize.

On Sept. 20, I participated in the Applefest in Appleton. Congratulations to Paige Strand who won the texting contest at Applefest on Sunday. Karen Johnson pulled the Threshing Bee Royalty float in the Applefest parade.

En route home I stopped to visit Jim and Julie Busse of Holloway and Kermit Lange in Alberta. Julie said that Tyler took 2nd in his demo derby class at both the Swift and Lac qui Parle county fairs.

The "Picnic of Hope and Healing" on Sept. 21 was well attended. Later it was off to the Donnelly Hall for the Morris Area School board meeting.

Mark Koepke and I visited via the phone recently. He says it is very dry in the Orlando area. He has a new phone number and would love to hear from people in the Donnelly area. Contact me for that number.

Verle and Della Dunn visited at the Jim Busse home of rural Holloway on Sept. 22.
