Welcome to another edition of the Donnelly news.

Temperatures during the last week have, at times, felt more like late fall then mid summer.  We have  had a few rain showers but it is still dry.  Corn and beans look good and some of the grain is starting to turn.

In news from St. John’s/Kongsvinger: There will be joint services Aug. 4 and 18 at 10:15 a.m. at Kongsvinger; and on Aug. 11 at St John’s.

There are two upcoming bridal showers at Kongsvinger.  One is for Audrey McNally, bride to be of Steve Larson, on Aug. 10 from 10 a.m.-noon and the other shower is on Aug. 17 for Amanda Werk, bride to be of Sean Sorteberg, from 10 -11:30 a.m.

Jordan Hughes was baptized on July 21 at Kongsvinger.  The parents are Jon and Toni (Kloos) Hughes.

From Good Shepherd Lutheran Church: Vacation Bible School will held on Aug 7, 14, 21 and 28, from 6-8 p.m.  For details, call 589-4345.

Beginning Aug. 6 at 9 a.m. the women’s Bible study will be opened up to everyone.

Trinity Lutheran of Alberta will have their annual sweet corn feed on Aug. 4 from 5-7 p.m. at the church.  

The Aanerud Family Reunion will be held Aug. 4 at Pomme de Terre Park’s main shelter starting with a noon pot-luck dinner.

On Aug. 5, the Red Hatters will meet at the Herman Bar and Grill in Herman at 9 a.m., the bookmobile will be in Donnelly at 3:30 p.m., the Rendsville 4-H meets at 7 p.m. at the fire hall and the city council will meet at 7 p.m. at the hall.

The Donnelly Community Club will have a meeting on Aug. 12 to put finishing touches on plans for the Threshing Bee.  There is still need for someone to be in charge of the kiddie parade.

The Threshing Bee is Aug. 24 and 25.  The feature this year is gas engines.  A new event this year is double elimination corn hole tournament.  The second annual tractorcade will take place at 9 a.m. on Saturday.  The website, http://www. donnellythreshingbee.com/ has been updated.  

You can meet the queen candidates on Aug. 3 at 7 p.m. at the town hall.

There will be a wedding card shower in honor of the recent marriage of Justin and Amanda Nelson on Monday, Aug. 5 from 7 to 9 p.m. at the Hancock Community Center.  Justin is the son of Doug and Leah Nelson from Hancock, and Amanda is the daughter of Marty and Jennifer Mulcahey of Gelena, Ill.. Justin and Amanda are both currently serving in the U.S. Air Force and stationed at Hill AFB in Ogden, Utah.  Justin's grandparents are former Donnelly area residents Harvard and Karen Jaeck.

Dick and Suzanne Smith of Donnelly were named The Stevens County Farm Family of the Year recently.

Natalie Johnston was named to the  dean’s list at the University of Minnesota, Twin Cities.

Mark Dunn placed second in his class at the Big Stone County fair demo derby on July 28.

William was born to Casey and Daniele Lesmeister on July 27. Grandparents are Tom and Roxanne Lesmeister, great grandparents are Ellie Lesmeister and Verle and Della Dunn.

Marjorie Armstrong celebrated her 95th birthday on July 28. Jimmy Koepke will be 70 on Aug. 4.

Several Donnelly area residents attended Hort Night at the West Central Research and Outreach Center in Morris on July 25.   While there, I had an opportunity to visit with Bruce Flaten.  He and his wife have moved into Wheaton now.

On July 26, Mark Koepke and I traveled to Donnelly  to help with clean up preparations for the community block party.  We also attended the block party there on July 27.   Earlier in the day I attended the 90th birthday party for Cliff Bjorlin in Morris.

Despite very chilly temperatures, a good crowd was on hand at Big Cat stadium for the Irondale band performance on July 26.

The Threshing Bee royalty and Minnewaska Riders princess Rebekah Aanerud were among the participants in the Waterama parade in Glenwood on July 28.

After the parade I stopped to visit Pastors Mike and Martha Hanson for a few minutes at their home.  Later, Mark and I attended the Faith Lutheran church picnic.

Verle and Della Dunn attended the farewell dinner and program for Pastor Judy at St. John’s on July 28.

Mark Koepke and I attended some of the Crazy Daze activities in Morris on July 31.
