The weather during the last week has been just what the doctor ordered for area farmers -- sunny and warm -- enabling them to make a lot of progress. Most beans are now done but there is still a lot of corn to be harvested. My neighbor said their corn was down to 25 percent moisture.
In St. John's/ Kongsvinger Parish News: the November parish newsletter is now out. Extra copies may be picked up in the narthex of both churches.
The Kongsvinger fall fest is Nov. 22 from 11 a.m. -1 p.m. Lefse baking day in preparation for the festival will be held today (Saturday) at 9 a.m.
The parish is collecting items for the food shelf during the months of Nov. and Dec. Non-perishable items may be left in the shopping cart located in the narthex of both churches. There will also be a "noisy coin" offering to collect change for the local Salvation Army's Toys for Tots program, as well as a cap and mitten tree in the narthex of both churches.
Advent decorating will take place on Nov. 27 beginning at 2:30 p.m. at both churches. All help is welcomed.
There will be a joint Thanksgiving service on Nov. 25 at 7:30 p.m. at Kongsvinger.
There is a bus going to the Concordia Christmas Concert in Moorhead on Dec. 5. For more information call 795-2477.
The Stevens County Republican Party will have its fall rally on Nov. 17 at the Morris Senior Center beginning at 5:30 p.m. For more information or to pre-register please call 589-1999.
The Donnelly Firemen's annual turkey bingo will be held on Nov. 20 at the town hall beginning at 7 p.m.
My neighbor David Larson informs me that Gus, a canine member of his family, passed away on Nov. 6 as the result of a corn hauling accident. He is survived by his owner and two "cousins." Many of you like me who have lost such family members know how he is feeling.
Violet Meyer of Hoffman passed away on Nov. 8 at the age of 85. Her son, former Donnelly area resident Delano (Linda) Meyer, is among the family members who survive her. They are currently serving as agricultural missionaries in Africa. I was among those from the area who attended her visitation in Hoffman on Nov. 11.
Congratulations to the following athletes who were honored at the Lions Sports banquet on Nov. 9: Wade Backman; Natalie Johnson, Mackenzie Smith, and Carrie Roske.
Congratulations to Greg and Naomi Fynboh of Donnelly who were recently named conservation family of the year by the Stevens County Soil and Water Conservation District. Greg's parents are Gene and Kathy of Brandon; Naomi's parents are Rev. Joel and Renne Dahlen of Mason City, Iowa formerly of Donnelly.
On Nov. 6 I stopped into HD & Co. in Donnelly to help them celebrate their 10th anniversary.
Jim and Lou Eystad and I attended the West Central Area Word Alone meeting in Benson on Nov. 7. The next meeting will be the annual advent pot luck at Trinity Lutheran Church in Cyrus on Dec. 2. It was also announced that Rev Steve King, Word Alone education director, will be speaking on Nov. 30 at 7 p.m. at the Morris Area High School.
On Nov. 8, several of us attended the "flying pancake" breakfast put on Chris Cakes, sponsored by the Morris FFA and Student Council.
In the afternoon, Jim and Lou Eystad and I helped set up the hall for the St. John's supper.
On Nov. 11, I attended the Learning Unlimited event at the Stevens County Museum. Here's a quick reminder that the museum is still looking for merchant memorabilia from the Donnelly area.
