Since this is Thanksgiving week I want to say thank you to the loyal readers who have made this column a success. I really appreciate every one who has taken the time to comment on the Donnelly News.

An all day rain last Friday put a temporary halt to corn harvest but the sunny mild weather returned, allowing farmers to make rapid progress. It has not dried out much. Moisture levels are holding fairly steady at about 25 percent, according to my neighbor.

In St. John's/ Kongsvinger parish news: The Kongsvinger Fall Festival is Nov. 22 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.

The parish is collecting items for the food shelf during the months of November and December. Non-perishable items may be left in the shopping cart located in the narthex of both churches. There will also be a "noisy coin" offering to collect change for the local Salvation Army's Toys for Tots program.

Advent decorating will take place Nov. 27 beginning at 2:30 p.m. at both churches. Everyone is encouraged to come and help.

The parish will have a joint Thanksgiving service on Nov. 25 at 7:30 p.m. at Kongsvinger.

Two community Thanksgiving dinners will be held in the area on Nov. 26 -- at the Assumption Catholic Church in Morris and at the Herman United Methodist Church.

Rev. Steve King will be speaking at the Morris Area High School at 7 p.m. on Nov. 30 on recent decisions of the ELCA assembly. The event is sponsored by West Central Word Alone.

Most Donnelly businesses will be closed on Nov. 26 for Thanksgiving.

Two former Donnelly area residents passed away recently. David Heinrich of Alexandria passed away on Nov. 14 in Madison. His survivors include his mother, Lillian of Donnelly, his brother Scott (Beth) and family of Morris, and a sister Karen of Alexandria. Services were held Nov. 19 in Alexandria. Odin Devick of Burnsville passed away on Nov. 12 in Richfield. Among his survivors are his wife, former Donnelly area resident Dorothy (Moe) and sisters Alice Hallman of Morris and Corrine Jackson of Starbuck. His funeral was held Nov. 14 in Bloomington.

You are invited to a baby shower for Ben, the son of Anna (Wernsing) and Matt Dorweiler at Our Savior's Lutheran Church in Chokio on Saturday, Nov. 28, from 9-11 a.m. Come and go as you please.

An open house baby shower for Britney Marie Woodke, daughter of Derek and Elysia Woodke, will be held Sunday, Nov. 29 from 1-3 p.m. at the Morris Senior Center.

There will be a 90th birthday open house for Ruth Moerke on Nov. 28 at the Morris Senior Center from 2-4 p.m.

There will be a Holidazzle trim-a-tree contest at the Donnelly Hall Dec 3 through 5 from 2-5 p.m. each day. The public can vote for their favorite tree display as well as sign up for the door prizes. Winners will be announced Saturday, Dec. 5 at 5 p.m. Tickets will be available at the door, either a one or three day pass. The money raised will go towards the Donnelly Town Hall remodeling. Contact Sandy Dunn at 246-3292 if you would like to bring in a tree to display or for more information.

Congratulations to the following people who were honored for their years of service to the Morris Public Schools, at the annual staff recognition luncheon held at MAHS on Nov 11th; Elaine Henrichs (5 years); Sue Erdahl-Nelson (15 years) Donna Gades (20 years) Jack Fuchs (30 years) and Becky Hennen (35 years).

Congratulations to Evelyn Kopel who was recently honored by the Salvation Army for her many hours of work at the Thrift Store in Morris.

Beckett Joshua Erdahl was born Nov. 7, 2009 at St. Joseph Hospital, Brainerd, to Kayla Harstad and Joshua Erdahl of Pine River. Grandparents are Jeff and Linda Harstad, Donnelly; Steve and Sue Erdahl-Nelson, Donnelly; and the late Bruce Erdahl. Great grandparents are Edward Backman and Sandy; Shirley (Harstad) and Paul Lohmeyer, Eugene Harstad; Bernice Erdahl and Dorothy Kiser.

Several current and former Donnelly area residents helped Agnes Kruize celebrate her 80th birthday at the Old # 1 Southside on Nov. 13.

Joyce Steuck was among those who enjoyed the Crazy Sisters Ladies Night Out at the Armory.

I watched part of the Clinton-Graceville-Beardsley and Verndale football game at Big Cat stadium that evening. The CGB Wolverines won.

On Nov. 14, I traveled to Starbuck. My first stop was at the Minnewaska Lutheran Home to greet some former Donnelly area residents. The next stop was Fron Lutheran Church for a concert by Captive Free, a youth group sponsored by Youth Encounters based in the Twin Cities

On Nov. 15, Jeanne Ennen and I enjoyed a concert by the Chord Ayres from Milan at the United Methodist Church in Herman.

On Nov. 17, Andy Brevig and I attended the Stevens County Republicans Fall Rally at the Morris Senior Center.

On Nov. 18, I stopped by my aunt Pearl (Albert) Anderson's home to wish her an early Happy Birthday.

On Nov. 16, I talked to my former neighbor, Delano Meyer, on the phone. They were home on leave but were planning on returning to Africa this week.

Jim and Lou Eystad visited her aunt, Marlys Alm in Morris on Nov 15.
