The weather during the past week has been very cold with temperatures below zero almost every day. Thankfully there has not been much wind to go with it. I took a different route home last week and saw that there were still a couple of cornfields in the area left to be picked.

In parish news from St. John's/Kongsvinger: There will be joint services at St. John's on Dec. 24 at 9 p.m. On Dec. 25 service is at 10 a.m. at Kongsvinger and on Dec. 29 services are at St. John's, with the time to be announced.

The parish collection of food for the Stevens County Food Shelf continues through December.

The Kongsvinger Christmas Card Club will be held again this year. To add your name to the list contact Bertha Larson or Florentine Erickson by Dec. 20.

There will be two performances of the St. John's/Kongsvinger Sunday School program this year. The first one is Dec. 20 during the 11 a.m. worship service at St. John's, which will be followed by a roast beef dinner. The second one is on Dec. 23 at 7 p.m. at Kongsvinger, followed by birthday cake, punch and coffee in honor of Jesus' birthday.

Santa will be in town today (Saturday) arriving at the Donnelly Hall at about 1 p.m.

Most Donnelly businesses will be closing early on Dec. 24 and will be closed all day on Dec. 25. HD & Co. will be closed Dec. 26 too. Several Donnelly businesses will also be closing early on Dec. 31 and be closed on Jan. 1.

There will be a community dinner at First Lutheran in Morris on Dec. 25 beginning at noon.

Dr. Pat Burke informs me that his daughter Sarah is following in his footsteps and has been accepted into medical school. Congratulations.

Congratulations to Jake Long who recently won the championship in his weight class at the Jaguar wrestling tournament and the Grant County Wrestling tournament at West Central Area in Barrett.

The following were welcomed as new members of the Rendsville 4-H club recently: Travis Fults (Randy and Joan); Kalley Johnson (Richard and Karen); Blake and Konner Koser (Darren and Nichole); Miranda Papesh (Mark and Michelle); Hope Speer (Rollie and Tami); Carrie and Kelly Wilts (Doug and Ellen); Gage and Morgan Wevley (Kevin and Lori).

Isaac Matthais Johnson was born Dec. 15 in Mankato to Rev. Mark Luther and Sarah Johnson of Springfield, MN, formerly of Donnelly. Grandparents are Dr. and Mrs. C.B. Paul of India and Rev. Roger and Lucille Johnson of S.D.

Dorothy Christians of Herman passed away on Dec. 14. Her son, Tom Boerner and sister Roberta (Willis) Volker are among the family members that survive her. Her funeral is today (Saturday) at the United Methodist Church in Herman.

Jim Fostervold of Willmar passed away in August. His wife, Roma, is a distant relative of mine.

David Fluegel and I were among those who attended the Sons of Norway bake sale and Fårikål lunch at the Morris Senior Center on Dec. 12.

Several of us attended the open house at the Thrivent Office in Morris on Dec. 15.

On Dec. 16 several former Donnelly area residents took in the Holiday Train in Elbow Lake.

Afterwards I stopped into the Victory in Life Church for their open house. Here's the "it's a small world" moment. The host told me that his adopted mother was Elaine (Kling) Puhl from Donnelly.

Pearl A. Anderson traveled to her son's Jodi Wilke's home in St. Cloud over the weekend to take in their Christmas program and partake in a Christmas family get together.

Jim and Lou Eystad visited a friend in the hospital and also visited Pearl (Albert) Anderson and Bev at their home in Donnelly this week.
