It was another stormy weekend with difficult travel conditions in the area especially on Sunday and Monday. Thankfully the forecast calls for some milder weather in the near future. A huge thank you to my neighbors for all the times they have blown out my driveway this winter -- it has been greatly appreciated.
In news from the St. John's/Kongsvinger parish: Parish Bible study on Psalms 23 continues on Thursdays at St. John's at 10 a.m. and will be repeated at Kongsvinger at 7 p.m.
Parish Lenten services, "The Sign of Jonah," with supper at 5:30 p.m. and services at 6:45 p.m., will continue through Easter. Supper and Services will alternate each week between Kongsvinger (Feb. 24) and St. John's (March 3).
Services with Holy Communion will be held on Feb. 21 at both churches not during joint services on Feb. 28 as stated in the newsletter. Services on Feb. 28 will be at 11 a.m. at St. John's with the Sunday school kids singing. It will also be broadcast on KMRS at 11 a.m.
The Area Lutheran youth organization will be going night bowling in Graceville on Feb. 21. For more information, please contact Sandy Dunn at 246-3292 or the parish office.
The February parish newsletter containing the full Lenten schedule is now available. The schedule is also posted on the doors of each church. Extra copies are available in the narthex of each church.
The February edition of the Meyer Mission news was recently sent out. Copies are available in the narthex of both churches and on my blog for you to read. In it is a report about their recent trip to Uganda.
The Donnelly Community club supper and annual meeting will be held on March 1 at Sax's Café beginning with supper at 6:30 p.m. and the meeting will follow. Please RSVP to 246-3217.
The Stevens County DFL county convention will be held on March 6 beginning at 9 a.m. at the American Legion in Morris.
New Horizons Ag Services will hold their annual meeting at the Prairie Inn in Morris on Feb. 23 beginning with a noon meal.
The Donnelly Co-op will have their annual meeting on Feb. 26 at the hall in Donnelly beginning with a noon meal.
The 2010 RTA phone books are now out. Extra copies are available at the bank and at HD & Co. in Donnelly.
Congratulations to Bernice Erdahl and Andy Brevig who were recently installed as officers in the Sons of Norway lodge.
Congratulations to Levin Strand and Keaton Long who were 5th grade winners at the Herman-Norcross spelling bee. Levin won the overall bee and will represent the school at the regional bee in Fergus Falls.
Congratulations to Breadon Long who was recently selected to participate in the west central Minnesota middle school honor choir.
Congratulations to Christa Bahr who recently won two scholarships at Alexandria Technical College for spring semester.
Congratulations to Jake Long who won his class championship at the Tiger invitational in Morris recently.
On Feb. 13, Andy Brevig, Steve Fults and I attended the Stevens County Republican central committee meeting, where we finalized plans for the county convention.
A good crowd was on hand for the Daytona party at the Donnelly Hall on Feb. 14.
Jim and Lou Eystad attended the St. John's annual meeting on Feb. 7 and the adopted grandparents event at Kongsvinger on Feb. 14. Lou says two of her aunts are celebrating birthdays this week: one of my predecessors in this job, Millie Lesage turned 93 on Feb. 17 and Marlys Alm celebrated her 95th birthday on Feb. 19. She is now home from the West Wind Village.
Nancy Sheir and two of her daughters came Thursday and are spending a few days visiting with their mother and grandmother, Pearl A. Anderson, at her home in Donnelly. Larry and Peggy Wilke recently stopped in to visit her when they got home from Arizona.
